Joni and Elaynah met in January or February of 2023 (neither of them can remember the exact date), and were friends. That was until Joni decided to ask Elaynah out to coffee after a text conversation which included invigorating topics such as DC superheroes and planning a Bible study with friends, to which she said “no”. They remained friends, seeing one another in church and talking after service from time to time. Often these conversations lasted for long periods of time, leaving Elaynah wondering why she rejected (in Joni’s words) him increasingly after each one. Flash forward to the end of May of 2024 (approximately 6 months after Elaynah rejected Joni), and Joni decided to send Elaynah a snapon Snapchat. This single snap spurred on a conversation that lasted throughout the day and into the evening. One such topic included the guitar, as Elaynah was learning to play at the time. Joni saw this as an opportunity to talk to Elaynah, and mentioned that he received a guitar for his birthday earlier that month. He then proposed the idea of Elaynah teaching him some chords via FaceTime. She agreed, seeing right through his attempt to talk to her face to face but still wanting an excuse to talk to him, as she had a huge crush on him. They ended up playing guitar for about ten minutes, and talked for hours afterward. They continued to do so for the next couple of days. In one such conversation, the topic of the first time Joni asked Elaynah out was brought up. To Joni’s surprise, Elaynah told him “well, if you ask me out again I wouldn’t say no!” Joni quickly looked up from what he was doing, and a first date was set. The weekend before their date, Joni and Elaynah were able to get to know each other even more at the United Retreat! Their first date went extremely well, as they yapped for approximately four hours over, you guessed it, coffee. It would have been longer if Elaynah did not have to go into work later that day. A second date was swiftly planned for the next day. During this date, Joni and Elaynah prayed over their relationship together, giving it to Jesus while listening to worship music. This date occurred on May 29, 2024, exactly two years from their wedding date! The above photo is from that date moments after they prayed :) They made things official on June 1, 2024 while watching the Lego Movie, and dated for seven months before getting engaged on New Year’s Day!! Habría durado aún más si Elaynah no hubiera tenido que ir a trabajar más tarde ese día. Rápidamente planearon una segunda cita para el día siguiente. Durante esta segunda cita, Joni y Elaynah oraron juntos por su relación, encomendándola a Jesús mientras escuchaban música de alabanza.
