The first time Jonathan and Gianna laid eyes on each other wasn't exactly love at first sight. They first crossed paths at a youth meeting in Virginia on April 8, 2022, when Jonathan was 19 and Gianna was 20. Ironically, Jonathan didn't remember meeting Gianna at all. It wasn't until June 24, 2022, at church camp, when fate (and a volleyball team assignment) brought them together again. Jonathan, captivated by Gianna’s beauty and sarcasm, attempted to introduce himself, only to be playfully reminded by Gianna that they had already met. Despite this awkward start, they soon discovered they had a lot in common. By the end of camp, Gianna noted in her journal that Jonathan was a sweet guy, and Jonathan found himself reconsidering his vow to remain single forever.

Their paths crossed once more on September 4th, when Gianna and her family traveled to New York for Uncle Ben's funeral. The Pearsons graciously invited the Riveras to their home that evening, where they bonded over music and stories.

A month later, on October 15th, Jonathan and his family journeyed to Richmond for the America Pray Now meeting. Just before heading back home to New York, Jonathan mustered the courage to ask Gianna for her number.

Nine months of navigating challenges and nearly calling it quits a couple of times later, Jonathan and Gianna officially started dating on July 20, 2023.

One cherished memory they share is their adventure through Guatemala with friends and family, where they also did some meaningful mission work together. Upon returning, they both knew they wanted to get married soon. Five months later under a canopy of twinkling stars, on May 25, 2024, Jonathan proposed to Gianna in a magical setting surrounded by floating lanterns and fireworks.

Jonathan and Gianna feel incredibly blessed for the love and support of their loving families and friends throughout their journey.
