What should we wear?
The wedding and reception will both take place on a sprawling green lawn behind a big white country house, with wrap-around porch and garden. With that, we envision our celebration as a fun yet fancy garden party - picture a sunny afternoon on a deck in Nantucket or a swanky shindig at the Kentucky Derby.
Ladies can't go wrong with a sundress or pairing a lightweight blouse and trousers. Gents should ditch the suit and tie for chinos, a cotton button-down shirt or preppy polo, and (if you're feeling bold) maybe a linen blazer, suspenders, or straw fedora hat.
We aren't sticking to a strict color code for the wedding party, so feel free to wear whatever hue suits you best! And all guests are encouraged to bring shoes comfy enough to dance in!
Where should we stay?
Memorial Day weekend will be a bustling time in Lancaster County, with an LPGA tournament schedule throughout the weekend - so try to book early if you can! We reserved as many rooms as we could at the Holiday Inn Lancaster (see the "Travel" page for details) so that's a good place to start. Having said that, there are also plenty of individual rooms scattered across hotels in Lancaster City and York, PA (both towns located about 20 minutes from the wedding venue).
Several groups of friends have told us they plan to book one of the many charming and historically preserved vacation houses in Downtown Lancaster on AirBnB or VRBO! From our own past experience, these are just as nice (or nicer) than a hotel stay and comparably priced.
How will we get there?
For those planning to drive directly to the wedding, there will be ample parking just up the street from the Susquehanna Manor Inn, our wedding venue. Address: 3272 Maytown Road, Marietta, PA, 17547.
However, we also plan to book a shuttle bus to carry guests back and forth from Lancaster City to the Manor. Details on that are still being finalized, but guests can expect to meet the bus outside the Holiday Inn at 26 E Chestnut Street in Lancaster and to be dropped off there at the end of the night. The hotel is well-situated in the center of town, so rest assured if you aren't staying at the Holiday Inn - it's just a short stroll or quick Uber ride from many of the hotels and AirBnBs scattered across town.
What's on the itinerary?
We're still working out the exact schedule, but generally here's what to expect:
The whole affair (including ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing) will take place at the same location, with a roughly 30 minute ceremony planned for late afternoon, followed immediately by cocktails and lawn games for an hour, then another 4 hours for dinner and dancing.
More details coming soon!
What's on the menu/on tap?
We're still working out the menu, so check back as the date gets closer. Rest assured though, we'll be happy to accommodate any dietary needs you might have - just let us know when you RSVP!
We'll also provide an open bar of beer, wine, and hard seltzers, along with bottled water and soft drinks. If you have your heart set on enjoying the harder stuff, we won't be offended if you sneak in a bottle for your table.
Can we bring our kids?
We love your kids as much as we love you. But while you might catch a few of our youngest family members at the ceremony, we've planned the reception as a strictly grown-up affair (ages 16 and older). We want you to be able to take the night off and cut loose, so plan to leave young kids at home.
Can I bring a date?
The venue is only so big, so we planned around singles and couples we already know. Check in with us as the date gets closer to see what space allows. But in general, we ask that our single friends plan to come solo.
Are you accepting gifts?
As two established gentlemen, we already have everything our little rowhouse in South Philly needs.
Having said that, a monetary gift would be graciously accepted, helping to offset some of the wedding cost and allowing us to plan for a honeymoon later in the year. You can make a gift right on our website (see the "Registry" page) or bring a nice card to the reception!
Will there be an afterparty?
YES! After the reception, help us close out the night with snacks and drinks at the bar and lounge in the Imperial Restaurant, located on the first floor of the Holiday Inn Lancaster. We'll have late-night nibbles covered, and you can grab yourself a nightcap at the cash bar.
This is a garden party...so what happens if it rains?
If it rains, the wedding is CANCELLED!!...kidding of course.
Have no fear! Susquehanna Manor Inn has a big, covered, wrap-around porch for cocktail hour and a music room just large enough to squeeze everyone in for the ceremony. We've also booked a big white tent, complete with a solid wood dance floor, lighting, and attachable walls so we can still enjoy dinner and dancing if the weather turns dreary.
Can we take photos?
For the ceremony, our wedding photographer will have it covered...we want you living in the moment and taking in the love.
For the reception on the other hand, take as many pictures as you want! We just ask that you share them with us! At the reception, you'll find details for sharing your pictures with us online, along with a hashtag in case you want to share on social media.
What if I have other questions?
If you've been invited to this wedding, you should definitely already have one (or both) of our cell phone numbers. Just give us a call or shoot us a text and we'll tell you anything you want to know!
