Before there were two beautiful people smiling ear to ear in every picture… before family members met the person who perfectly complements their loved one in every way… there was a leap of faith.

No, not the decision for Jonathan and Cortney to officially become a couple — if that’s what you were thinking. A true leap of faith had to happen first: the decision to move to Nashville.It wasn’t simply about being closer to family. It wasn’t a new job opportunity. Those reasons, while meaningful, weren’t everlasting. The greatest explanation behind the move was simple: God said so.

Most leaps of faith come with nerves — sometimes even fear — because you don’t know what waits on the other side. Yet in early May 2022, Cortney made the move.
Like something out of Genesis, it was on the fifth day that she walked into a Black-owned coffee shop and met Jonathan, a barista standing behind the register. The vibrant glow of Cortney’s smile and her bold orange summer outfit caught Jonathan’s attention immediately. So much so that he personally brought her order to the table, struck up a brief conversation, and left her presence with something unforgettable — her Instagram handle.

The lovely days of May passed with a little “investigative work” on each other’s social media pages. Curiosity turned into growing interest. The next meaningful encounter happened at an unforgettable open-mic night that Jonathan organized — and invited Cortney to attend.

The beautiful essence of Black Nashville filled that small coffee shop space with culture, creativity, and community. Cortney left that night knowing she had found her spot… and possibly liking what she was beginning to see in Jonathan. There was an embracing presence about him that drew her in — his warm smile and kind eyes bringing a refreshing light into her world.

After that event, Cortney visited the shop again that month. Jonathan was sweeping near her table when a conversation began effortlessly. It flowed naturally, casually — until Cortney mentioned wanting to explore more places around Nashville.
Like a Hallmark script unfolding in real time, Jonathan replied that he knew a few places and would love to show her around. “We could start with lunch tomorrow,” he said, already pulling out his phone to get her number.Cortney smiled, took the phone, and entered her information.

Lunch the next day became the beginning of an inseparable journey.God used both of His children to create a love that is genuine, divine, and impossible to ignore whenever they enter a room. Nashville hasn’t been the same since these two came together. And now, we celebrate a couple who exemplifies Christ-like leadership — not only to one another, but to everyone they encounter.Through patience, grace, and growth, Cortney and Jonathan will soon become The Wynns.
