Lubbock Locals

Dylan and I met in Lubbock, late October, of 2016. I was visiting a friend for her birthday and the post birthday celebrations lead us to an ATO fraternity party later that night. I wish I could say something like “it was magical” or “love at first sight” but let’s be real…it was a Texas Tech frat party.
Dylan found me on social media shortly after my Lubbock visit ended, we kept in touch, hung out with mutual friends over the summer, and when I decided to move to Lubbock myself, it was nice to have a friend in the midsts of trying to make new ones.
After my time in Lubbock, when I got my job at American Airlines, I moved to New York. I transferred back home, during COVID, and Dylan had just moved back to Frisco after graduating, and started his first job in recruiting, around the same time.
We reconnected through a mutual friend, Ben Hoelzel, who happens to be a groomsmen on our special day. Ben wanted us to get together to meet his, now wife, Danielle.
Though we all kept in touch through group messages and social media, Dylan and I hadn’t seen each other in almost 2 years. But it was like no time had passed and we jumped right back into our banter.
Two weekends later, Dylan asked me on a date.
Had you asked me back then, I was a little frustrated. I was excited to have my friend back. So should I say no, the friendship was out the door. My only option, truly, was to say yes and see how things go.

And I think things are going alright (;
