And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love... 1 Corinthians 13:13
They say that you meet the right person when you least expect it, and that's exactly the way our story unfolds. It was October of 2018, and the only things that I was focused on were: growing in my faith, growing at my job, living a healthy lifestyle, spending time with those around me, and definitely NOT looking for a boyfriend... little did I know that would soon be changing.
The night I met Jeffrey, I had every intention on being at home in my pajamas, probably watching Disney movies while snuggled up with my cats... but instead, my best friend Lindsey convinced me to come say hi to her and her boyfriend in the Old Market. When I got to their location and walked inside, I immediately noticed Jeffrey standing on the other side of the room. I remember thinking to myself, "wow, that guy over there is very cute." But if you know me, you already know that there was ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that I would be making any sort of first move. Forget it.
As the night went on, I started to notice that the both of us had been exchanging quick (and awkward) glances at each other, and the next thing I knew.... he was walking over towards me. Talk. About. Panic. Attack.
"Is he looking at me?!"
"There is no way that he would be walking towards me?"
Yep. He was. And thank the Lord that Lindsey was there to bring me back down to earth.
After some casual conversation and the typical line, "I definitely know you from somewhere," he finally introduced himself to me.
He said, "my name Jeeeffffff" in the same voice that Channing Tatum does in the movie 22 Jump Street. Me, someone who can not quote movies to save my life, apparently looked at him like he was some sort of idiot, gave him the cold shoulder, and that was the end of our conversation... super romantic, right?
On the drive home that night, I couldn't stop thinking about this cute guy that I had just met, who's name was Jeff. Something in my heart was telling me that I needed to know him. After Instagram and Facebook creeping for TWO WHOLE HOURS, I finally found his profile, took a leap of faith and clicked "add friend."
Jeffrey messaged me the next day, and after strategically waiting an entire 24 hours to respond (I guess I was playing hard to get or something?), I finally said, "I think you forgot to ask for my number so here it is." To my surprise, he responded to that. Some messages were exchanged, and eventually we agreed to schedule a mini golf date. From there, we never stopped talking...
I thank God every day for leading me to Jeffrey. He was and is the answer to all of my prayers, my saving grace, and my absolute best friend. I can not wait to take his last name; my heart will forever be his.
Well, it was an average Friday night in Omaha, Nebraska. Some friends and I had been to a hockey game and had gone downtown to meet up with a couple folks afterward. I remember seeing Jordan out of the corner of my eye and how she immediately caught my attention. Even now, I can't really explain why I was so drawn to her. I kept peeking over to where she was and trying not to make eye contact. I knew I had to talk to her, but I also needed the right moment, and that moment was not while she was surrounded by her friends. I told my buddy Jordan (yes, another Jordan) that I would wait and see if she was around later, and if she was, I would talk to her no matter what. Later came and she was still there...and with only one friend now. I told Jordan I was going for it and he wished me good luck.
I don't remember everything I said when I introduced myself...it was kind of a blur...but I remember quoting a line from the film 22 Jump Street. “My name Jeff...you know, like from 22 Jump Street?” I got nothing in return but a blank stare. Meanwhile, her friend Lindsey attempted to make the moment less awkward, but it was clear that neither of them got the reference. After unsuccessfully trying to recover the conversation, I decided that my only option was to excuse myself and go tell Jordan how badly the encounter went. I didn't bother asking for her number cause I didn't notice the slightest bit of mutual interest.
The next morning, I was watching TV with my roommate Tyler when I received a friend request on Facebook. I glanced at my phone, and to my surprise it was the snooty, quiet girl from the night before! I remember telling Tyler how shocked I was not only that she sent me a friend request, but that she was actually able to find me on Facebook. I accepted the request and then sent a little message to say hi. To my surprise, she didn't reply. It wasn't until the following day that she broke the silence and sent me a message. We ended up planning our first date to play mini golf and the rest is history.
