We are so excited you will be joining us for our wedding! We highly recommend you make this trip - an extended vacation! Not just to explore and have fun, but also to make sure you make it here!! Winter Park is about 90 miles from Denver International Airport. It takes about an hour, 45 minutes. If you are renting a car at the airport; make sure it is 4WD or AWD. The winter in Colorado can be an absolute wonderland but it can also be a challenge for anyone that is behind the wheel. Keeping calm and being prepared for the worst case scenario can help you stay safe and have a great vacation.
The last part of your trip will take you over HWY 40 (Berthoud Pass) which is normally open year round but can close due to extreme weather conditions. Be sure to check the weather and traffic cams on COtrip.org. It's an incredibly beautiful scenic mountain drive! It's important to note though that the pass has been known to be a bit difficult to traverse for some drivers. In fact, it's often referred to as a "white-knuckle drive." This is due to the fact that there are steep (6.3%) grades on both sides of the pass, and quite a few switchbacks. But do not worry as you embark on your drive, Berthoud Pass is a well-maintained four-lane alternating highway and is equipped with guard rails and other safety measures. Please drive safely!
Easily navigate Winter Park and Fraser with the refreshed, free public transportation- The Lift! Whether you come to town via car, train, or shuttle, once you’re here, the Lift will take you to your day of play at Winter Park Resort to the shops and eateries of the lovely downtown, and everything in between. Before your trip, download The Lift Rider app!
Airbnb and VRBO have great options if you travel with a group- there are lots of beautiful cabins available. You can book anywhere in Granby, Tabernash, Fraser, or Winter Park. If you plan to take the shuttle to the wedding; please note that the shuttle only runs in Winter Park and Fraser. Everything else is a short drive away.
There is an Amtrak station in Fraser. This is a great option if you don't want to drive over the pass. There is a train that runs daily from Denver to Fraser at 7:30 am, but check their website to confirm! Depending on where you live you might even just take the Amtrak from your house and not even have to fly into Denver.
