At the time of their lives which marked their meeting, Sadie Disbrow and Joshua Coleman were looking for everything but love. Surely, had they been looking, they never would’ve met. Buried within academics, self-development, absorbed in their hobbies, their eyes were fixed towards the horizon of their future until those eyes met each other’s. Their meeting was as serendipitous an event as life on earth, Columbus sailing to America, or the invention of the microwave oven.
Sadie was waiting for her Uber to pick her up from a party she hadn’t even planned on going to. Couldn’t even call it a party, really, despite how this shindig was pitched to Sadie’s friend, who begged her to come along because of a crush. This “party” was five intoxicated guys playing video games in one of their mother's basements. Super lame. Sadie was invited to a block party, a real party, with a bonfire and hundreds of people, that she couldn’t wait for her Uber to take her to. As she was getting ready to leave, the basement door opened, and in walked a total Adonis; likely the most handsome man she’d ever seen with radiating charisma. This was Josh, also known as the person obviously writing this. Sadie immediately canceled her Uber ride. Her driver had just arrived outside.
They spent the next hour or so absorbed in each other's conversation, discussing art, their volunteer work, and where they were at in life. Josh offered to drive her and her friend home. Unfortunately, Sadie lived just right around the corner. Their fun was cut short, and they made vague plans to meet up again soon. It wasn't until Josh had driven Sadies friend halfway to the next town over that he realized he hadn’t any way to actually contact her. Thankfully, her friend provided him with her number.
After a few local meetups, their first date was to go see a Toro y Moi concert in Philadelphia, where Josh lip-sang every romantic lyric at Sadie, and Sadie's mother blew up her phone because she googled “John Coleman film guy” and found a 50-year-old adult film director on IMDB she thought had tricked her daughter into a date.
Josh found himself going places and thinking to himself “This would be more fun if Sadie was here with me.” Thus, they began sharing many experiences together. He told her he loved her. Somehow, she was shocked.
Over the years, they both graduated and worked towards the careers they wanted, deepening their bond with each other, becoming a part of each other's families, and sharing travels, experiences, and the world.
After four years of dating, they decided to move in together. Not long afterward, they took in a French Bulldog and called him Wilbur in memory of Sadie’s grandfather. Pretty soon after adjusting to the responsibility of being proud dog parents, Josh bought a ring and proposed to Sadie on the Monet Bridge at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. They were able to share the news with their families the same day, including Josh’s grandmother, who gave Sadie her blessing.
This is our story thus far. We look forward to sharing the chapter of our wedding with every single one of you. Our eyes are once again fixed on the horizon of our future.
