Josh and Hannah met at the University of Maryland during the Fall semester of 2016. They were both a part of the campus ministry, ONEU, and one particular night, Josh noticed the cute, quiet Hannah sitting across the room when she first piqued his interest. Josh, being direct, started a conversation with her on December 8th. This was their first social interaction with one another, and as time progressed, it would not be their last. About a week later, Josh "slid into her DM's" to kindly "check up" on her during finals week. The intention was sincere, however, this was the beginning of the interest that he had in Hannah. After the fall 2016 semester was over, Josh and Hannah developed a friendship, although winter break prevented the two from talking. During the spring 2017 semester, Josh invited Hannah out for lunch at Nando's Peri-Peri. At this point, Josh was deeply interested in Hannah and thought a daytime lunch was an appropriate context to get to know each other on a deeper but friendly level. Their conversation that day was great, as they talked for about two hours--they briefly shared their testimonies, highlighted aspects of their lives, especially where they saw the Lord moving, desires and wants, and where they thought the Lord was leading them related to ministry. Unfortunately, after that conversation, Hannah did not think that their life goals, and where God was leading her--and Josh--were in alignment. So, shortly after, the two did not continue in developing their friendship in hopes to potentially date. Josh calls this moment of their relationship the "friend zone," a place where many men have been at least once in their lifetime––A ha ha. Eight months later, Hannah began coming to Solid Rock Church, the church where she was baptized as a member of ONEU, the campus ministry of SRC; it was also the church that Josh attended. There, Josh and Hannah reconnected as friends and began to develop their friendship. Josh's desire for Hannah had never went away, even through the season of being "friend zoned." Hannah also had a mutual interest in Josh--she thought he was cute––he agreed. As the two endured the rigorous workload of the fall 2017 semester, they began to go deeper as friends, causing both to have to grapple with their feelings towards the other. The two decided, after much thinking and praying, that an "intentional friendship" would be the wisest label to define their relationship. Meaning, they both expressed a desire to be more than friends, but did not believe the Lord was leading them to formally date at that moment. Entering into 2018, Josh and Hannah, along with friends from church and their campus ministry, went to a worship conference for three days from January 1-3. This conference would be the context in which God revealed to both Josh and Hannah that dating one another is a good thing. So, after reconnecting in the fall semester of 2017, and interacting with one another alongside friends, praying about dating, and after their time together at the 2018 conference, they both agreed that formally dating was the logical next step. They began dating on January 6, 2018, and the rest is history. Josh proposed to Hannah on August 2, 2019, and the two are set to become ONE on August 31, 2020. They are excited about what the Lord has done in them thus far. His grace is especially noticeable in their journey, and they are grateful to go deeper in their relationship with the Lord, and to live out the implications of the Gospel as future husband and wife.
