Josh and Madi first met in their hybrid Psychology 101 class during their first semester of college. When Madi was looking for a seat in the class, she sat next to Josh. A compliment on Josh's Baby Yoda facemask, going through the trenches of studying for difficult exams and quizzes in study groups, and getting lunches together once a week led to Josh and Madi developing a sweet friendship.

The day before Madi's 19th Birthday, Josh surprised Madi with Drake's "What A Time To Be Alive" Album on Vinyl (one of Madi's favorite artists at the time). It was exactly a week later that Josh asked Madi out on a date. Madi was surprised that Josh had feelings for her (even though all of her family and friends whom she told about the record knew that he probably had feelings for her). Madi told Josh about a promise that she made not to date anyone during her freshman year of college. She asked him if they could get to know each other better, spend more time together as friends, and see where the rest of freshman year took them. Josh sweetly replied, "I will wait for you."

Josh and Madi had their first date on May 5th, 2021
