Little did I know that an ordinary Sunday school, I would see my husband for the first time. I was walking into Sunday school, and I was running late. I remember the Sunday school room was full and there was thankfully one seat open near the door Paster Ed said, “Here is Abigail Ahrens fashionably late”, he was being funny, I remember looking to the right, and seeing Josh for the first time. I was like, who is that giant dude? I remember being impressed with how involved he was during our discussion time. I thought he seemed like a godly guy. When Paster Ed mentioned my last name Josh recognized it because my sisters play basketball, and he didn’t know that they had an older sister and that I existed. So, Sunday school is over, and I’m hurrying to choir practice. We were already dismissed a little late, so I remember that day vividly. I was going quickly. Josh was going to try to talk to me but he didn’t catch me.
We are in the main service at church Sunday morning and Anna, my sister notices Josh and texts my mom to check out the guy in Eddie Bowen’s row. Anna thought he looked like my type! I come down from the choir, sit in our pew, and Anna texts me to look at the guy in Eddie Bowen’s row. Anna texted me that she thought he looked like Clark Kent. 😂I was like oh, I see him, and I was like yeah he seems like a great guy! My family that day was like Abigail go talk to him, but I was too nervous and not up for it! Even through just observing him in Sunday school, I could tell he was a good guy, outgoing, and that he loved Jesus a lot because he participated in our Sunday school! I was intrigued by him!
I remember that after church that morning, once I got home, I prayed about him, which was wild! I can’t remember what I said, but I thought he seemed like a good guy, and if I saw him in the evening, I might talk to him. He wasn’t at church Sunday night, but that night, I had a Christian dating app, and I had it only for a couple of weeks. So, I’m scrolling and guess who pops up?! I couldn’t believe it!! I was like, wait, is that the guy from this morning?! I’m so excited, and they had a like and super like button, and I was like, of course I’m super liking it! I learned some more about him, that he was ministry minded, that he was a sponsor in youth group, helped with the children during his churches Sunday main service, and that he was a paramedic firefighter. I thought he seemed decent!
Two days later, he messages me and asks me a couple of questions, and then literally the next message is we have a lot in common could I take you out to dinner? I was flipping out! I was so pumped!!! It was an interesting time because it was last April when my sister Amy had jaw surgery, so a lot was going on. We had never had anyone in our family have a big surgery, so it was a tough time! That day, my parents were actually with Amy and she was about to have her surgery in a couple of hours. I wanted to tell them, but they needed to focus on Amy. I was dying to tell someone, so Anna came home for her lunch break at work, and she was the first person I told. Anna was the one who encouraged me to get the dating app because I was against it initially and terrified about it. So, I told Anna he asked me out, and we were jumping, yelling, and thrilled!! It was fun to share the excitement with her!!!! It’s so wild to me to see how God works! The fact that Sunday night, I happened to find Josh on the Christian dating app wasn’t an accident; God was moving and orchestrating that! It blows my mind, and God has blessed me with the greatest guy!
Some of my favorite things about Josh are how ministry minded he is. He’s involved in the youth group, goes to camp in the summer, loves on and invests in the teens, and helps in super church during their Sunday morning service with the younger kids. He loves others so well! He’s the funniest person! No one can make me laugh like him! When he walks in the room, he lights it up with his height, humor, and happiness. For work, he is a paramedic firefighter. He works so hard, is calm, and loves helping people. He’s my favorite firefighter! He has the sweetest family, he has three older sisters and he is the youngest and only boy. He is competitive, and loves to play board games, watch football, and play basketball. I’m so grateful God brought Josh into my life! I have found the one my soul loves. God is so good and faithful for bringing Josh into my life. He is my person. I can’t wait to serve God together for the rest of our lives!!
