When we First Met

Picture of When we First Met

The first time we met was at a youth group retreat our Sophomore and Junior year in high school. Both of our cabins went out to the lake that night. The girls to "spill the tea" and the guys to jump in the lake. When Josiah jumped in the lake, I offered to hold his towel, and my first words to him were "You're an idiot!"

Becoming Friends

Throughout high school, we would hang out every week at Chic-fil-a after midweek. She drove me absolutely crazy. Everything I said, she would argue with me about. I began to research topics each week before midweek, yet she would still argue about even the most absurd things like rare pennies.

However, when I went off to college, we started talking all of the time. She became my best friend. One night when we both had Covid, we stayed up until 2 am talking over FaceTime because we both just lost track of time.

Prom was our first official date. It was such a magical night. He opened every door, helped me walk in my heels, and made me feel like a princess. Luckily, he did survive the daggers my dad was shooting with his eyes as we took prom pictures. I knew from that night that this truly was going to be something so special.

Dating through college has truly been such a treasure. We have been through a lot together these past few years and been each others best friend and constant encouragement. It has been amazing to see each other grow closer to the Lord, step into leadership with CRU at NC State, and learn how to honor God through our relationship. We have enjoyed so many concerts, football games, and powered through a lot of long days studying. We would not trade it for the world!

The Proposal

My friend sent out a group text asking a group of us to go on a picnic after church since she was back in town for the weekend. Since this was something we usually do, I did not think anything of it. My friend asked if I could stay in my church dress because she would not have time to change and she did not want to be the only one in a dress. I reluctantly said yes, and almost changed five minutes before she picked me up from my apartment. When we got to the park, I saw Josiah's car. I figured him and his friend were fishing because Josiah said they were hanging out (although he has never gone fishing before in Raleigh). As I walked down to the lake, I saw Josiah smiling at me, but I thought it was weird and he knew this was my time with friends, so I was not going to walk down. Then I noticed the lake had acquired some new furniture. There were two rocking chairs, a rug, and some roses. I thought this was really strange, and Josiah was still standing there smiling at me. I took a few steps forward only to realize he was holding a tiny box. It finally dawned on me what was happening. I literally could not believe it! I was so shocked and so excited, I could not stop laughing, crying, snorting, or saying "oh my gosh!" It was the best yes ever!
