Our Wedding

We met how most millennials meet these days – through a dating app. Just call us a big old Hinge success story. Our first date on September 2nd, 2019 was at “Beezy’s,” a brunch restaurant in Ypsilanti.&nbsp;Joslin was still living in Ann Arbor doing clinical research studying sleep in pregnant women for U of M, and Cody was working for EXEDY (an automotive supplier) and had just bought his first home.&nbsp;Over the next few months, we continued to date—making it official on December 31st, 2019 (Cody decided it was “about time”—Joslin probably should have seen this as a precursor for how long it would take to get engaged).&nbsp;Joslin was accepted into medical school at the University of Louisville, which threw a wrench into our relationship. Neither of us really wanted to date long distance, but we decided to see how things would go between us.&nbsp;On July 18th, 2020, Joslin officially moved to Louisville. Over the next two years, we endured the COVID-19 pandemic and the depths of Joslin's medical school training. We also added to our family (Cody had Talcum when we first started dating, but Joslin adopted Jade during her first year of medical school). Best decision ever – even though she’s the grumpiest girl in the world. Ultimately, we made the drive from Ypsilanti to Louisville, or vice versa, around 40 times. Cody went back and confirmed using pictures, Google Timeline, and calendars. The distance between Ypsilanti and Louisville is around 350 miles and typically takes 5 hours and 20 minutes; this equates to a total of 24,000 miles driven and 420 hours spent in the car. As you can tell from this paragraph, Cody loves his numbers and data. 	The silver-lining of the COVID-19 pandemic was that both of us were remote (or mostly remote) which gave us the flexibility to turn what would have been short weekend visits into multi-day stays.&nbsp;After doing long distance for close to 2 years, Cody sold his house and found a new job in Louisville—and we moved into our first house together on June 3rd, 2022.&nbsp;Over the next few years, Louisville became home for the both of us.&nbsp;&nbsp;We enjoyed walking the dogs together, exploring local restaurants, volunteering together at the Kentucky Harm Reduction Coalition, and monthly home-cooked dinner nights with friends.&nbsp; Joslin graduated med school on May 11th, 2024 and matched with a Family Medicine residency program at Prisma Health in Greenville, SC.&nbsp;This led to the 2nd move of our relationship, and we officially moved into our 2nd house together on June 7th, 2024.&nbsp;Finally, after close to 5 years of dating (1,795 days to be exact – another Cody number addition), on November 29th, 2024, Cody asked Joslin to marry him while in Charleston for Thanksgiving. Joslin was so excited that she almost threw up. Over the course of our 5 plus year relationship, we’ve been blessed to have gone on 15 trips—from NYC, to the Cayman Islands, to the Redwoods in California, and many places in between.&nbsp;After we’re married, we hope to continue to travel and explore the country and world together.&nbsp;We’re both excited about the next chapter in our lives, and we can’t wait to celebrate our love with our friends and family. She might not text you back for a couple of years, but she will literally do anything for you. Her fav hobbies are traveling and driving for long distances - sometimes with no destination.

While born 3 years apart, age never separated Jacob and I—mostly due to the fact we had to share a room while growing up.  Jacob is a little more type B than me; Jacob asked me to write a best-man speech a week before his wedding…. I’ll be lucky if he writes mine over a week before my wedding.

Potentially the smartest of the 4 Kelly kids – Nathan laughed when I complained about studying for an exam (he never had to).  Nathan and I have quite a few differences – he can put his feet behind his head, I can barely touch my toes.  He speaks 3 different languages, I struggle speaking English sometimes.  Although we’re very different, Nathan has always been my biggest role model.

Willing to stick his hand into anything (don’t ask about either of our hands actually – we both worked in Brody dish room) and can fall asleep anywhere.  Bailey is an amazing chef, whipping up pasta with homemade tomato sauce or French toast with a fruit-compote, but he’s an even better friend.

Austin and I met our freshman year at MSU – we lived on the same floor, and we continued to either live on the same floor or as roommates in various dorms and apartments until graduation.  Austin is the best gamer I know (and also the biggest computer whiz).

Hans and I met in a bathroom (we were suitemates freshman year) and continued to either live on the same floor or as roommates in various dorms and apartments until graduation.  After graduation, Hans and I both ended up in the Ann Arbor area—unfortunately, Hans has converted to the dark side.  

Hans Mendiola

Tucker’s a lot like any car guy—his project car has never made it further than the end of his driveway.  Tucker was my first friend I made after college, we met at an automotive conference—and ironically lived down the road from each other (barely a mile apart).  We did a lot together while I lived in Ypsi – played Milife volleyball, road motorcycles, and eventually became homeowners around the same time.  You can trust he (and his partner Katie) will have the best board games you’ve never played.
