Lucy Zhang - Matron of Honor
Lucy and I met at WashU's Asian Christian Fellowship and have been accountability buddies post-college. She's a brilliant art historian, and one of my favorite things is when she helps me appreciate art by giving me a private tour of museums :) I love her calming voice, her quirky humor, her planning skills, and watching her exemplify Christ in her marriage to her husband Sean.
Scott Boisvert - Best Man
Scott and I met freshman year, but we didn't start being goofballs together until junior year when we bonded over food, cooking, and house parties. We've both matured a lot since then but whenever we see each other again those edgy jokes and goofy demeanors always resurface. What I love about Scott is his dependability. One of my first impressions of Scott was when a friend and I were at an afterparty in Chapel Hill one Friday night. We didn't wanted to spare the expense of getting a cab so we called him about picking us up with his roommate's car and he came immediately; no questions asked.
Matthew Lu - Wedding Officiant & Groomsman
Matthew and I knew of each other in undergrad but didn't start getting to know each other better until when I was in grad school and he was living across the hall from me and making funny-tasting food like his garlic with creamed spinach dish. What I love about Matthew is his love for Jesus. I attribute so much of my early spiritual growth to this guy in how he modeled the Christian life for me through his disciplined pursuit of Christ, passion for college ministry, and his care for people. I cannot think of anyone else who would be a better officiant for my wedding.
Xenia Chiu - Bridesmaid
Xenia and I also met at WashU's Asian Christian Fellowship when she was a prefrosh. Xenia reminds me of myself - fiercely independent and ambitious, but so much cooler :) She is at Northwestern for Law School and is killing it with the blessings of God. Each time I'm with her my heart is so full.
Joshua Mitchell - Groomsman
Josh and I met freshman year and it was friendship at first... sound? He's got the voice of a sports announcer and the sports knowledge to back it up too. What I love about Josh is his spontaneity and fun-loving attitude. He is the person that first introduced me to so many new experiences including salsa dancing, snowboarding, ticket scalping, world traveling, and so much more. In college when classes were canceled during snow days Josh would always be down for sledding in the gardens with some trash bags or cardboard boxes.
Yujin Chung - Bridesmaid
Yujin is one of the first of Jingwei's friends in Durham that I met when we first started dating. If I had a Harry Potter patronus, it might be Yujin. We both love God and seek to serve Him in our careers, are complete foodies (her insta is @yjfoody), and love to travel. She is HILARIOUS with a glass of wine in her, especially when playing Settlers of Catan. Jingwei and I love to travel with Yujin and her husband Hyunkoo. She's a nurse at Duke hospital and thinking about going back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Katie Loh Luo - Bridesmaid
Katie is my oldest friend - we've been friends since Kindergarten! For many years, I would go over to her house after school and her mom practically raised me. I also had the honor of officiating her wedding last year! Katie is probably my smartest friend though she's incredibly humble so you'd never know. She's an anesthesia doctor in NY with her husband Leo (also a doctor). Jingwei and I actually caught the garter and bouquet without trying at their wedding!
Meng Lo - Groomsman
Meng and I met during an inflatable 5k run last year where we had to many our way through these blow-up slides and obstacles that you would typically find at a 10-year-old's birthday party. You'd have to be a bit nutty to subject yourself to 3 miles of that and Meng is one crazy man. But what I love about Meng is actually his patience and gentle spirit. I learn so much about how to love others well by observing the care that he shows to the people in his life. While walking to a coffee shop one evening Meng was stopped by a homeless man with his kid outside of the shop and proceeded to not only spared the $20 bill in his wallet but also spent the next 20 minutes listening to the man's story. To me that is the type of kindness worth emulating in my life.
Erick Perdomo - Groomsman
Erick was my high school butt buddy. Senior year we did everything together. We skipped school together. We played frisbee together. We had sleepovers at his house. We had water gun fights. We stuffed our faces at the local Greek restaurant. We helped each other with prom proposals. What I love about Erick is his openness. In high school his house was the go-to hangout spot for all of us not because it was the biggest but because it was always available and it felt like home there. I even climbed over this porch door once to get in.
Crystal Fang Hsu - Bridesmaid
Crystal is another friend that I've known since I was young. We went to the same church (Atlanta Chinese Christian Church North, the one Jingwei and I met at) and went to Kenya on a mission trip in high school together. She and I were both involved with Intervarsity in college and were in Greek life (mine with a business fraternity and she in a sorority). She works with Georgia Intervarsity as an Associate Area Director where she oversees the staff of multiple chapters across universities in Georgia. She is married to Daniel (another friend from ACCCN) and has a cutie patootie son named Jacob who will be one of the ring boys.
Joshua Wang - Groomsman
Josh is Joy's younger brother and I'm so excited to be getting a brother out of this whole becoming part of the family thing. I've always wanted a little brother and while I'm not much older than he is I hope that he'll still be down to play catch with me sometime. The best way that I can describe him is that he's like coconut. He is by no means ostentatious, but if you take the time to peel off the fuzzies then you see a person who is refreshingly down-to-earth and surprisingly sweet. Both of which are qualities I know I will love in my future brother-in-law.
