The year was 2020. The world had shut down due to the COVID pandemic, and Austin had moved back home, working to save a little money. On weekends, he’d pack up his car and drive down to his alma mater—THE Ohio State University—to catch up with his fraternity brothers.
One weekend, those same brothers invited a group of ladies to join in the festivities. They met across a fire pit, Judy not drinking because she had to work the next morning, and Austin harassing her because she was not drinking with everyone else. Neither of them knew it then, but that night would mark the beginning of something extraordinary.
Over the next few months, they got to know each other through late-night conversations, dollar wells at Ugly Tuna, day drinking at “The Island®,” spontaneous trips to Swenson’s, and lots of laughter. On August 1st (an easy date to remember!), Austin asked Judy to make things official.
Their first vacation together was a ski trip to Seven Springs. Austin would tear down the black diamond runs with moguls, while Judy cruised peacefully down the green slopes, smiling all the way.
Soon after, Austin met Judy's family and secured the nickname "Gringo #1". A total culture shock for a mid-west white boy, but he tried his best to understand the fast-paced Spanish-speaking around him. Although his spanish sucks, he knows how to ask for Croquetas, Cheese Pastelitos, and legal cocaine (Cuban Coffee).
During their time at The Ohio State Judy and Austin "traded" classes one semester, Judy passing physiology for Austin (which he originally failed) and Austin completing her ethics class (both getting As). As the the year came to an end, the two spent countless hours side by side studying for finals, prepping for the LSAT and PCAT. Both were accepted to graduate programs at the University of Toledo: Austin for law school, Judy for pharmacy school.
Grad school brought new challenges. Time together was limited, and Austin spent his summers away on internships in Florida. However, they managed to make it work through texts, occasional visits, and unwavering support for one another.
Eventually, it all paid off. They bought their first home together, a condo in Naples, Florida. After the sale closed, Austin proposed to Judy right out front. After a couple of minutes of ugly crying and fumbling with which hand to put the ring on, they managed to figure it out....
Today, Austin is a practicing attorney, helping families plan their estates and legally dodge taxes, and Judy is a pharmacy resident at Lee Health, working to save lives.
Last year, they got Doug. A Bernedoodle with more personality and attitude than both of them combined.
We couldn’t be more excited to start this new chapter—and to celebrate it with all of you!
