Q + A

Where is the event?

We’ll be celebrating at the beautiful Davidson Ranch in Silver Falls State Park, better known in our family as Sheep Barn. It is also referred to as "Old Ranch". Parking is very limited at the Ranch so please try to carpool if possible! There is more information on the location and parking under the Travel tab on the wedding website.

When should we get there?

The Wedding day is on Saturday, August 17. Cocktail hour begins at 4 PM, followed by dinner and toasts from 5:30-8:30, then dancing, music, and general festivities, 8:30-12am. Some people will be getting in Friday afternoon and staying as late as Monday. Those RSVPs are already in, so you should know when you will be arriving and leaving. If you need to change your plans, please let us know!

How do I get there?

Davidson Ranch is an easy 1 hour 30 minute drive from Portland. Parking is very limited at the Ranch itself, so please try and carpool if possible! There is a large parking lot at the Smith Creek Cabin area about 5 min away from the venue which guests can park in and carpool up to the Ranch. Please see the Travel tab for more details on the location and parking.

What will we be doing outside the wedding if we're staying for the weekend?

There will not be any structured activities outside of the wedding day, but there will be a lot of people around to organize activities with! Feel free to bring any indoor or outdoor games you’d like to play, individual activities (books, crafts, etc) or things you’d like to share with people. There are a lot of beautiful hiking trails around Silver Falls if you want to bring your walking shoes (see the Things To Do tab on the wedding website), a big field to play games in, or you can just relax and lounge around!

Where can we stay?

The Ranch has an upper loft level which contains plenty of simple wooden bunks with mattresses - please see the Travel tab and Photos tab for more details. The Ranch will likely be noisy late into the night so keep that in mind when planning your stay. Many people will be pitching a tent in the field outside of the Ranch - there is tons of room out there and this will be a quieter option! Keep in mind there is very little shade so it will get hot early in the morning. The nearby Smith Creek Village cabins are fully booked but we do have a few additional cabins booked about a 20min drive away which are available; please let us know ASAP if you are interested in renting one of these! There are also hotel options a bit further out from the park. There is information on those under the Travel tab.

What will we do with our kids??

As of now there will be at least 10 children attending, from ages 2-11. We will be providing a pinata as well as other outdoor activities to keep the kids occupied. There are lots of small trails and woods close to the Ranch for kids to explore - with adult supervision of course. Please note that there will NOT be any childcare / babysitting provided so you will need to keep an eye on your child(ren). That being said, this is a casual family event and we are fine with kids running around and having fun throughout the festivities! If you have a picky eater, we recommend bringing some foods that they will eat as we won't be providing kid-specific meal items.

Is there electricity?

Yes! There will be outlets to plug in phones and other devices, however there are only a few outlets and a lot of people, so bringing an external battery if you have one would be a good idea.

What will the weather be like?

The celebration is in August, so it will most likely be hot, possibly 90s+. That said, the weather in Oregon can be unpredictable even in the summer, so there is a chance it will be cooler or even a little rainy. It also does typically cool off significantly in the evenings, so a warm layer would be wise. This stretch of August last year had a high of around 90, and a low around 60. Keeping an eye on the weather beforehand and planning accordingly is a good way to go!

Will we be indoors or outdoors?

The dinner and most events will take place inside Davidson Ranch. This is an older, rustic building which does not have air conditioning; we will have large fans circulating air as well as misters and hand fans. There will also be a canopy providing shade outside. The Ranch has two bathrooms, each of which has 4 stall toilets and 2 sinks.

Will there be a ceremony?

There will not be a traditional ceremony. Julia and Steele were married at the Toledo Courthouse on February 22nd, 2024. This weekend is intended to be a casual, fun celebration of their love with the people they love the most! There will be an announcement and toasts during dinner.

What should we wear?

Something light and breathable will be the name of the game for attire! We are not super formal folks, so there is no need for tuxedos and floor length gowns (unless you really, really want to!) That said, something a step above your old t-shirt and cargo shorts would be appreciated during the wedding celebration on Saturday. Button down short sleeves and nicer shorts are still absolutely fair game, but really whatever you’ll feel most comfortable in!

What will we eat/drink?

We will be providing the following: light dinner & non-alcoholic drinks on Friday; dinner, dessert & drinks (both alcoholic and NA) on Saturday; light breakfast on Saturday and Sunday for those who RSVP'd. See Home tab for event details. If you did not RSVP for the Night Before or Day After events but would like to join, please let us know! Lunch will not be provided either day, so please plan accordingly. Silverton has grocery stores and a lot of delicious Mexican food and other restaurants and is a 30min drive from Davidson Ranch. There is a cafe called "The Big Leaf Coffeehouse & Grill in Silver Falls State Park", located about 5 min from the Ranch in the Smith Creek Village cabin/parking area. They are a full restaurant and also sell snacks and drinks, and are open 8am-8pm on Friday/Saturday and 8am-3pm Sunday. See Travel tab and Photos tab for more details. Guests are welcome and encouraged to bring extra food/snacks if needed, especially if you will be staying for the whole weekend. Please note that there will NOT be any refrigerator space available to guests at the Ranch, and we cannot provide extra ice for coolers. You are welcome to bring your own cooler with ice and store it inside the Ranch.

Are there bathrooms?

There are two bathrooms inside the Ranch, each with 4 stall toilets and 2 sinks (see Photos tab for details). There are no showers in Davidson Ranch. There are camp-style public showers located about 5min from the Ranch in the Smith Creek Village area.

Is the area wheelchair-accessible?

Yes! The parking area is paved, and the space inside is concrete. There is some uneven grass around Davidson Ranch, but most of the night will take place inside, you will not need to travel across grass to reach anything. Please reach out if you have any questions or need any additional accommodation.

Are dogs allowed?

Unfortunately no :( We love dogs, but our venue does not allow for pets.

Should I bring a gift?

We would like to respectfully decline gifts - being able to celebrate with our loved ones will be the best gift of all!

What else should we bring?

Anything else that may make your stay more comfortable! Camp chairs, games, sunscreen, and snacks are all common sights at Davidson Ranch / Sheep Barn, so all those things would be a good idea to pack particularly if you will be hanging out during the day before and/or after the wedding. We will try to provide plenty of activities for downtime so don't stress if you don't know what to bring!
