The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is one of the greatest celebrations of arts and culture on the planet and takes place every August in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city.&nbsp;The weekend after our wedding will be the first weekend of the 2025 Fringe and we encourage everyone to stick around for it! The city comes alive with stages and beer gardens on every corner. While the biggest acts do sell out in advance, it's possible to get day-of tickets to most shows.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 

Deemed Scotland's ultimate roadtrip, the North Coast 500 is -- you guessed it -- 500 miles of stunning coastal and mountain scenery through the Scottish highlands, with cute towns to stop in for a pie or seafood along the way. The route and best stops are well-documented online, but some of our favourites include: 1) Dornoch, a quaint Cathedral town where Michael grew up (and home of a world famous golf course); 2) Lochinver Larder for pie and mash; 3) Ullapool seafood shack; and 4) Culloden Battlefield, the site where the Jacobite army led by Bonnie Prince Charlie were finally defeated by the British Army.

Drive the North Coast 500

There are many beautiful isles to visit on all sides of Scotland. The most famous (for good reason) and one with the most accommodation options for tourists is the Isle of Skye. Visit the fairy pools, eat at The Three Chimneys (Michelin 2023), or hike the Old Man of Storr -- there is so much to do on Skye!

Visit a Scottish Isle 

Scotland's contributions to the world are significant, and in modern leisure none are more enduring than golf. To many golfers, the Old Course at St Andrews, a links course dating to before 1574, is considered to be a site of pilgrimage, however there are lots of courses in and around Edinburgh for anyone who would like to play a round in the birthplace of the game. Book in advance (and don't ask us for course recommendations, we don't know!).

If you've made the trip all the way across the pond, you might want to see another part of Europe (and increase your chance of getting some sun!). Edinburgh Airport offers flights to lots of European destinations and you will have plenty of options to choose from.
