Evan and Julia met in February of 2019 while staffing BBYO's International Convention in Denver, Colorado. Evan and Julia's first conversation was over dinner with friends when Julia gave Evan her chocolate dessert. While conversing, Evan learned that Julia had just moved to the Washington DC area. Evan, who had lived in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) metro for four years, offered to show Julia around. The week after the convention, Evan had a work conference in Northern Virginia and messaged Julia to meet up prior. Evan and Julia spent hours talking, and both instantly felt comfortable with each other. Over the next few weeks, Evan and Julia continued to talk on the phone daily and see each other when possible. They quickly learned that they had much in common, including mutual friends through BBYO, traveling, and spending time outside. In March 2019, Evan and Julia both staffed their local BBYO convention with the chapters they advised. While at camp, Evan asked Julia, "where is this going." They both agreed that they did not want to see any other people and the rest is history!

Throughout their relationship, Evan and Julia discovered they both love giving surprises but hate receiving them. Evan and Julia love to travel, whether for a new hiking trail, a quick Airbnb getaway, or visiting the beach. Over the 4th of July weekend, Evan and Julia traveled to Cancun, Mexico, for a mini getaway. While in Mexico, Evan informed Julia that he had made dinner reservations at the resort steakhouse for the two of them, and the resort concierge would be escorting them to dinner. When the two arrived at dinner, Evan asked Julia to close her eyes and directed her to the table. Before coming to the table, Julia opened her eyes to find Evan on one knee, asking Julia to marry him! Julia was so surprised she could not stop smiling. The proposal so took Julia that she was not upset that Evan lied about making dinner reservations at the steakhouse. The perfect evening ended with a candlelight dinner on the beach.
