High Falls Gorge is the Adirondacks’ most breathtaking, year-round, 30-minute walk. Witness four majestic waterfalls cascading over rocks into a deep crevice carved a billion years ago. Just a short drive from Lake Placid and one mile from Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort, this is the perfect stop for half a day or half an hour.
The Wild Center has a 54,000-square-foot indoor space, swimming with live exhibits including river otters, multi-media shows and tons of hands-on experiences. There are trails, guided canoe trips on the river that runs by the Center’s campus, and a staff ready and willing to show you around, and answer questions about anything having to do with the wild world of the Adirondacks.
Adirondac Rafting Company invites you to run the wild and scenic Hudson River Gorge. The gorge run is a 16 mile, 4-5 hour adventure trip with plenty of whitewater fun. Adirondac Rafting Company provides highly skilled, licensed, and fun river guides, lunch in the remote gorge, and all the necessary gear to keep you comfortable on the river.
During the Summer and Fall months, guests have the opportunity to experience the beauty of Ausable Chasm by hiking trails, rafting, climbing, and rappelling, as well as a unique adventure park, and river walk trail elements suspended over the Ausable River.
The eight-passenger Cloudsplitter Gondola carries you from the Main Base Lodge to the summit of Little Whiteface Mountain in fifteen minutes. As you trace the mountain’s contours—soaring over streams, ski trails, steep rock faces and thick forests—the beauty of the Adirondacks reveals itself. At the top, soak in the views of Lake Placid and the High Peaks Region from the observation deck and picnic area.
The Mountain Pass Lodge is at the Olympic Sports Complex, 31 Van Hoevenberg Way in Lake Placid, New York. A large parking area leaves lots of room for cars, so you don't have to stress about finding a spot.
From the Mountain Pass Lodge, hikers have direct access to one of the newest trails in the Adirondacks, the Mount Van Hoevenberg's East Trail. In addition to the East Trail, from the hiking center, you can also access Sleeping Giant a variety of other loop trails such as Ni-Notch, Lover's Lane, and the Nested Loop.
The Lake Placid Club offers 45 holes of spectacular golf in the heart of the Adirondacks.
