On a cold January night, our church group gathered for our weekly game of ultimate frisbee. I noticed a pretty, new girl, Julia, on the field. Luckily, we were placed on the same team. Although it was Julia’s first time playing, I ran farther and farther out towards the end zone. Finally, as Julia yelled that she couldn’t throw that far, I circled back for a short pass.
Months later, we started talking more during our church group's social hike to Red Top Mountain. We enjoyed getting to know each other and met some of our very good friends from that hike. Julia tried initiating a texting conversation afterward, but unfortunately, because I was failing my graduate fluid mechanics course, I barely responded for several months.
Finally, after narrowly surviving the spring semester, Julia organized a tennis session with me and a few friends. Fortunately, I was the only person able to attend. Seizing upon this glorious opportunity, I had a great time playing pickleball and getting my butt kicked in tennis with Julia. At the end of our informal date, I finally worked up the courage to ask her to get Thai food the following day. Of course, we had a splendid time at dinner and talked about everything under the stars. And the rest is history :)
