Our Wedding

The love story of Julia, Evan, and Jesus.

You might read our story and think that we’re lucky or that fate favored us in some fashion, but that is not the case at all! God has His timing. We have seen His hand in our lives throughout our whole relationship, and His ways are above our ways. The most important aspect of our relationship is that it is centered on Christ! If there is one message we want to impart to our friends and family, it's that there is nothing more important than a life honoring to Christ and an eternity secured in His righteousness. We strive for our relationship to be an outpouring of the love we've experienced from our Creator and hope that it also can point others to Him. Psalm 37: 4-5 "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act."

How We Met

Julia and Evan met in October of 2024. They'd seen each other at church a few times before, and Julia had hoped that Evan would come talk to her! Evan had seen Julia and wanted to talk to her, but he drug his feet! Julia is just so friendly and talkative with everyone that he never saw an opportunity to talk to her alone. Time went by, and as the Lord's providence would have it, one October day, Julia was perusing a dating app when she came across the profile of an attractive young man. She decided this was her opportunity to “drop her handkerchief.” "Hi! Do we go to the same church?” she messaged (already knowing the answer). Evan opened his phone, saw the handkerchief, and immediately knew that something was going to be different with this woman. He skipped the small talk and immediately asked her on a date due to his excitement, but also partly due to his poor facial recognition and the fear of a potentially awkward situation at church the following weekend. Their first date entailed mini-golf, seafood, ice cream, a walk along the bay, and conversation that flowed like Niagara Falls (thanks to Evan's off-the-wall questions and Julia's verbal processing).

The Year of Evan and Julia

Fast-forward a year and their relationship has been a whirlwind of travel to the corners of the globe! Mexico, Georgia, Oregon, Peru, and five countries in Europe have all been on the itinerary! They've hiked Rainbow Mountain, Machu Picchu, and the Albanian Alps. They've gone hunting, skiing, boating, off-roading, and learned (mildly-successfully) how to ride a tandem bicycle! They enjoy playing pickleball and beach volleyball, cooking healthy meals, going to drive-in movies, taking Evan's dog on beach walks, and above all spending time with family and friends.

The Engagement

In congruence with their love of travel, Evan decided that their upcoming trip to Europe was the perfect time to ask Julia if she'd do him the honor of becoming his wife. He was nervous about traveling with the ring and having to keep it hidden, so he figured early in the trip was the best time to "pop the question." Evan planned a date to get some nice sunset pictures in a castle overlooking the Albanian coastline, but so had dozens of other tourists. He wanted it to be a private moment, so rather than abandon the plan for the night, he used the time to scope out the perfect spot and convinced her to stay and eat dinner at a restaurant in the castle while he waited for the sun to go down and the tourists to clear out. When the time came, Evan asked if she'd want to get one more picture with the city lights and ocean in the background. Julia thought they were going to attempt a complicated, cheerleader-type pose. Evan staged his phone, clicked record, then proceeded to do a completely different type of pose! The world slowed down, and Evan only remembers opening the box and the ring sparkling all over the angel in front of him. "Yes! Yes, of course!" was the answer to the question he had apparently managed to get out. Then time started back up again.

The Future

God has been directing our paths since each of us were born, as He is directing each of you even if you don't realize it. This path is often difficult and confusing, but the one thing that we can always count on is His love. We know that God will continue to guide us as we seek His will in our relationship, and our prayer is that His light will shine through us to everyone along our path!

We'll start with some our our earlier memories and favorite dates!

Julia quickly realized that life with Evan wasn't going to be "in her comfort zone."

Cooking, drive-in movie theaters, skiing, baseball games, beach time, various athletic activities, and dressing up for events are some of our favorite dates!

Evan loves taking just as many pictures as Julia does…

Mexico was our first short excursion.

Altitude sickness at over 16,000ft is no joke.

Next was Machu Picchu!

Julia loves strange animals in foreign countries.

…but Evan is not so sure.

Shall we go to Europe?!?!

...but when is he going to propose???

She said “Yes. Yes, of Course!”

We're so excited for everything the future holds!

For out of town guests, we recommend flying into San Diego International Airport (SAN) or John Wayne Airport (SNA). The venue is roughly 1hr 15min from each, but Evan and Julia both live in San Diego, so if you’re coming early and want to enjoy some of Evan and Julia's favorite activities around San Diego, SAN might be the best choice :)
