International travel tips

Flying or driving into the U.S.

Travelling to the U.S.A. from another country? Use these helpful links to ensure you have everything you need prior to your trip!

If you are travelling to the U.S. you will either need a tourism visa or an ESTA visa exemption. If you're a citizen of Australia, you should be able to apply for the exemption, which is a cheaper and more efficient option. You can find more details about the Visa Waiver Program here.

Flying or driving into Canada

Blaine is roughly an hour-long drive from Vancouver, BC. If you choose to fly into Vancouver instead of Seattle (or another U.S. city), you will likely need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Note: if you are an American citizen and want to pop up to Vancouver before or after the festivities, you will need your valid passport, passport card, or NEXUS card to cross the border.

Tips for traveling in the Pacific Northwest

Tipping: It's customary to tip 18-20% (before tax) at restaurants, coffee shops, and other service industry businesses such as nail salons and spas.

Sales tax: In Whatcom County (where the wedding is), sales tax is 8%. In the city of Seattle, sales tax is 10.25%.

Weather: August is typically the most beautiful time of the year in the Pacific Northwest; however, we are famous for our rain, and being on the coast it tends to get chilly at night. We recommend preparing for 24-32° C (75-90° F) during the day, and as low as 12° C (53° F) at night.
