Our Story

Our Story...

Raiko was born in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba. When he was three years old, he and his parents moved to the United States. Raiko grew up in Florida and later moved to Grand Island, NE when his little brother was born. During his freshman year of high school, Raiko's family moved to Schuyler. Julia, on the other hand, was born and raised in David City with her five siblings. Raiko and Julia met during their junior year of high school at a bonfire in Schuyler. Raiko asked for Julia's number and they started talking the very next day. If you ask Julia, Raiko was a little more infatuated than she was. After a few secretive dates, Julia introduced Raiko to her parents and he's been partaking in Witter adventures ever since! It took a few months for him to get used to the family breaking out in song and crazy arguments, but eventually he learned to tolerate it. Julia has had fun learning about Cuban culture and taking part in the Cuban parties! She’s also become a big fan of Cuban food.

Julia and Raiko dated the entirety of their junior and senior year of high school and then decided to attend Chadron State College. They enjoyed going to the State Parks and taking trips up to South Dakota in their free time and even took some camping trips to Spearfish. Although they enjoyed their time in Chadron, they took every opportunity to come home and see family during breaks from school. In May of 2020, both graduated with their bachelors (woo-hoo!!). It was a virtual graduation, but a graduation all the same! They moved to their respective home towns to work and save up some money.

Raiko and Julia enjoy doing any outdoor activity. They often plan their dates around fishing, biking or hiking. You are sure to see the couple poking fun at each other and cracking jokes anytime they are together! They make it a point to go on family trips. In 2018 they went on their first excursion to Las Vegas with some of the Witter crew. Later that year, they hiked Longs Peak in Colorado with the Witters. They even traveled to Cuba in the summer of 2019 to visit Raiko's family. In January of 2020, they traveled to Mexico City on a Church mission trip with Julia's mom and little sister. They enjoyed the travel and mission work and have plans to do more in the future!

After almost seven years of dating, Raiko FINALLY popped the question in Omaha after a day of shopping and a thoughtfully planned picnic. Julia gave Raiko a very enthusiastic YES! The enthusiasm died down a little when Julia realized no one in her family or Raiko's family knew how to plan a wedding. It's been a fun ride for the couple anyways!

Eventually, both Julia and Raiko would like to go on to further their education. They plan to move to Omaha after the wedding. Although uncertain about many aspects of the future, they are certain they want to spend the rest of their lives together!
