Our Story

Our love story .....

Our Story begins ....

Picture of Our Story begins ....

It was grade 11. Dylan saw Jules from the bus in port coquitlam. She was walking to Riverside high school in a black dress and flip flops. He remembers that detail to this very day. He thought wow who's that? He had a crush on her right away and little did he know she had a huge crush on him all throughout high school. She could never get up the courage to tell him how she felt. Nor could he.

Fast forward to high school graduation where Jules was extremely excited to know that everyone was sitting in alphabetical order by their last name. This meant Julianne (Jules) Shapter and Dylan Siegle would be possibly side by side for 3 hours. Goosebumps. But ya no ... There was one small problem... there was one guy in between them lol. Jules asked him if he would switch seats with her so that she could sit beside Dylan ~ .... and he did (eek she was so excited). Jules so wanted to ask him out but could not find the words.

Fast forward to 3 years later. Dylan was stationed in Germany in the US military and Jules messaged him on a daily basis and they video chatted. They would talk about their lives and experiences. Dylan asked her if he could take her out on a date when he returned to Canada. She said yes and said she would wait for him.

Fast forward to a year later in 2015. Jules messaged Dylan on Facebook (social media is a blessing) and they chatted for days. He finally found the courage to ask her out.

May 14th 2015 they went out on their first date (FINALLY!) and he took her to rocky point park for ice cream and to walk the pier. They had a very romantic evening. They kissed and there was fireworks. Everything they imagined for all these years. The next day Dylan wanted to see her again so he asked her out and took her to the seawall in Vancouver. They walked around for hours and enjoyed each others company. They got their first 2 pictures together. He loved getting to know her and asked her to be his girlfriend. She of course said yes. They went out to castle fun park with his parents and she got to know the loving and wonderful big family he has. She was smitten.

4 years later they got engaged on May 12th 2019.

Dylan and Jules went to grouse mountain on the Saturday to celebrate their 4 year anniversary (May 14th). It was beautiful and sunny. He wanted to take her to see the bears and enjoy a lovely dinner at the observatory. They were dressed up and feeling great. It was a lovely night. Little did she know what he had planned. The helicopter ride and eye of the wind (windmill) may have not showed or ran but they were determined to have a wonderful weekend. Sunday morning Dylan woke up to call grouse and make sure their helicopter was running (as it did not the night before as Dylan had hoped it would). When they got there it was not there and never came. It was a windy and cloudy day but still sunny up in the mountains. They wanted to make the most out of the day so they took their free tickets on the gondola ride up. They walked around and saw the bears again. They walked around to see if anything else was open as it was opening weekend. The chairlift was closed (sadly... but Dylan tried to get us up there) but the chairlift was open to the zipliners. Jules had ALWAYS wanted to go ziplining and cross it off her bucket list. So off they went! They were so excited and nervous (as he should be lol). The crew were amazing and they got us all set up. We wanted to get go pros too so we could capture the entire event. Jules was on cloud 9! They did the first 3 ziplines which were shorter and easy but scenic. They were ready to get to the 4th and 5th lines. The 4th was much higher! We had to hike a ways to get to the top. You could see the ocean for miles and mountains for days. It was the most breathtaking view Jules and Dylan captured. This gave a sense of euphoria and a adrenaline high! It was amazing. The 5th line was the longest and the most scenic of all. After being on such a high the group of 3 instructors walked with us to the highest peaked of Grouse. Jules could not get enough of the view and took a bunch of photos. While being completely oblivious Dylan pulled out the ring with the instructors help. He walked over to jules. He asked her to turn around. Remember, they are wearing hiking gear and all their zipline equipment. She turned around and he got on one knee. He then said, jules, julianne Marie shapter Will you marry me ? You are the love of my life. She cried in happy years and gasped out, Yes, Yes! The small crowd to the side and the instructors all clapped in happiness. He put the ring on her as she was shaking and they kissed. The instructors go pro and dylans go pro got all the footage. They have this memory to keep forever. They enjoyed pictures and the view as they let it all sink in. They took the chair lift back down. This became the best day of their lives.

Hashtag for this memorable event is #thesieglehaslanded ~ it has so many meanings for us from the obvious to Dylans military connection and history. We look forward to all the fun pictures that come about from this hashtag.
