Things to Do

IU Campus

Picture of IU Campus

There's a reason why IU's campus is consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful in the country. If you want to explore, nothing is better than taking a morning walk through the Sample Gates and following one of the brick trails into Dunn Woods. Depending on which trail you take, you might find yourself surrounded by gorgeous limestone buildings near third street, watching squirrels dart around the creek in Dunn Meadow, walking through the campus greenhouse, throwing coins into (or fishing your dog out of) Showalter Fountain, or even exploring the Hogwarts-esque Union building, where our reception will take place.

No matter where you wander, don't stress about getting lost. The campus is only so big, and you can always ask for directions if you need it- people tend to be very nice.

Switchyard Park is a 65-acre park located on the city’s south side. The park is a culmination of decades of planning, as both city leaders and residents saw the potential of an abandoned railroad switchyard to become a destination park for people of all ages and abilities. Inside the park, you'll find a dog park, jungle gym, skate park, picnic pavilion, and a spray pad for kids (or overheating adults- up to you).

You can drive to the park or walk there via the B-Line trail, which is a walking and cycling trail that runs along the western side of downtown Bloomington.

If you want to find a Hoosiers basketball lover around Indiana University, you can likely find one watching hoops at Nick’s. But in addition to basketball, there’s another game that’s also beloved at this bar: Sink The Biz, which has become a Nick’s tradition. The rules are easy: Float the “biz” (a highball Bismarck glass) into a bucket filled with beer and count to three. If the biz doesn’t sink, you are in the clear; if it does, you must drink the glass full of beer.
