Justin and Kathren met for the first time on February eighth, twenty twenty-four, on a chilly Thursday evening. Kathren was waiting to see who would show up for her first-ever young adults small group, and Justin was getting off work late, debating whether it would be worth it to show up late to the small group. After getting home and showering, Justin felt the Lord prompt him to show up even if he was late. Meanwhile, Kathren sat alone in a classroom. She had tried to leave three times, thinking no one would show up, but she felt the Lord telling her to wait a bit longer. Feeling defeated, she gathered her things when suddenly Justin showed up. The two sat down and spoke for about an hour, then decided to grab dinner and continue their conversation. After that day, the two started a friendship that quickly blossomed. On May 4, they went on their first date, and four months later, on August 9, Justin got down on one knee and asked Kathren if she would marry him.
