I never really knew who Kelsey was, but I remember seeing her here and there at Chi Alpha conferences and thinking she was really pretty. I never thought much of it—until I did the internship with Chi Alpha and found out she was an assistant CMIT/Internship director for UTSA. She walked into one of the intern classes, and I knew I had to at least introduce myself—so I did. But that was it. Time went by, and I still had a small crush on this girl I’d met once and hadn’t talked to since. A few months later, it was our end-of-year conference, and I saw Kelsey putting away some sound equipment. If it were anyone else, I probably would’ve let them do it on their own, because it really wasn’t that much—but I really wanted to talk to her. As we walked to the storage room, we made small talk. Kelsey asked me how I got involved in ministry, and that was pretty much the whole conversation. After that, we didn’t talk again for almost a year. But that moment was huge for me—I told all of my friends I had a crush on her. Meanwhile, she probably didn’t think twice about what happened. More months went by, and then we had Breakaway 2023, another big conference. This time, I went with a mission in mind: 	1.	Hang out with my friends 	2.	Talk to Kelsey—and hopefully get her phone number. And I did!! The rest is history.

The Groom’s Side of the Story

2022. Justin and I met when we were both college missionaries. He had dyed orange hair. He was LOUD. He was from Kingsville, TX and he loved making people laugh. Once a month that year, we had theology class that was basically all day.I never told him, but I thought he was kind of cute. But not my type, really. In December, we had a winter conference where I was coordinating a bunch of smaller break out sessions. Before dinner, I needed help carrying some AV equipment down to the main lobby. Justin was the last person in the room. I asked if he had time, and he grabbed the speaker without hesitation. I didnt want the walk to the sound room to be awkward...so I asked him how his first year in ministry had been. To be honest, I dont remember most of that conversation. I do remember making a mental note, Huh, hes sweet. Do all girls make mental notes loll? 2023. We didnt talk again for almost a year. Sometime during the summer, I got an a friend request from him on Instagram. He DMd me not long after and started little conversations here and there. At first, I just thought he was really friendly. I got suspicious because he always found a way to start the conversation again. I think hes flirting...? I didnt know what to do with the conclusion I just came to. What should I do??Look, I didnt just flirt with guys. I could honestly write a whole book on the myriad of thoughts running through my head for a few weeks. The hard part was we werent really friends (like for real friends) outside of social media. I wasnt looking for a relationship, but I knew that I liked him. Well, at least in theory. That October, I got to see him again at our Breakaway conference. Let me preface...I love God and wasnt about to pursue anything that I shouldnt. I PRAYED that if I wasnt delulu and if this man was actually serious about getting to know me...that he would be straightforward with me at this conference. 2 days passed and nothing happened. N O T H I N G. Okay, maybe it wasnt meant to be. We made it to the end of Breakaway and right when I was walking out with my small group...I felt a tap on my shoulder from a guy holding a guitar. PRESENT. We talked for about 2 hours that night, and havent stopped talking in the almost two years weve been together. I cant even begin to sum up the rest of our relationship timeline in this little blip of space. We laugh SO MUCH! We talk about our dreams and our hopes. We do our best to help each other look more like Jesus. We dated over a year long distance between San Antonio and Kingsville, and even though it was hard sometimes, it helped us grow. November 2025 we are ready for you!God, you brought me a good one. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life on this side of heaven alongside my best friend. (:
