Ottawa, IL, sits at the picturesque intersection of the Illinois and Fox Rivers, making it a playground for water sports enthusiasts and fishing devotees.&nbsp;<a href="https://visitheritageharbor.com/marina/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Heritage Harbor Marina</a>&nbsp;is open to the public seven days a week and caters to every watercraft need.&nbsp; Tritoons:&nbsp;These high-performance 115-horsepower (HP) boats are similar to pontoon boats but with enhanced stability for smoother rides. Tritoons are ideal for larger groups and choppier waters.&nbsp;Pontoons:&nbsp;The pontoons in the marina’s fleet, equipped with 90 HP engines, are the more economical rental option. This is the perfect boat if you’re part of a smaller group or looking for a leisurely cruise.&nbsp;Kayaks:&nbsp;From April 15 to October 1, kayaks are available to rent. Explore the riverscape adjacent to the marina for a few hours or the entire day. Paddle west to explore Starved Rock from the water. It’s one of our favorite things to do in Ottawa, IL.&nbsp;Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs):&nbsp;Also available to rent from April 15 to October 1, SUPs are one part full-body workout and one part water adventure. Take them for a paddle around the marina or venture onto the Illinois River. Remember, practice makes perfect.

Boasting stunning sandstone canyons, waterfalls, and a 13-mile network of 16 individual hiking trails, you could spend days exploring the park’s natural beauty. Once you’re done exploring Starved Rock, check out&nbsp;<a href="https://dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.matthiessen.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Matthiessen State Park</a>, just two miles away. Though smaller, Matthiessen mimics Starved Rock’s famed terrain, including canyons and waterfalls. For the best panoramic views of the Illinois River, visit&nbsp;<a href="https://dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.buffalorock.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Buffalo Rock State Park</a>. Starved Rock State Park

Ottawa, IL, is home to one of the Land of Lincoln’s most famous landmarks: the first Lincoln-Douglas senatorial debate site. On August 21, 1858, Washington Square welcomed an estimated 20,000 spectators to hear Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas begin the renowned political campaign. Modern-day visitors can enjoy the beautifully manicured park downtown within walking distance of Ottawa, IL, restaurants and shops. The park features a beautiful fountain, life-sized bronze statues, and a boulder at the center of the square to commemorate this momentous piece of American history.&nbsp;
