Their first date was in the summer of 2017 at "their spot" at Lake Afton. They watched the stars in the back of Jake's truck bed and listened to country music. Next thing that happened, Jake grabbed Kailey to two step and she knew in that moment, she was in trouble.
Unfortunately, they only dated for a little while before Jake went off to boot camp in November of 2017. They decided to part way due to only dating for a short time.
Jake was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina for 2 1/2 years. After a couple years apart, Jake and Kailey crossed paths again, and picked up right where they left off before he left for boot camp.
In the early spring of 2020, Jake got orders to be stationed in Okinawa, Japan where he was 14 hours ahead of central time. When Kailey was waking up, he was going to sleep, and when Jake was waking up, she was going to sleep. It was tough, but they made it happen when others doubted them.
After 556 days of her waiting for him to be back in Kansas, she picked him up at the airport. After a week or two spending time with family, Jake and Kailey took a road trip back to North Carolina and explored multiple locations along the way.
After Jake got out of the Marines, him and Kailey moved in together in her apartment. About a year later, their family grew by four paws when they adopted Sadie. I'm sure most of you have seen Sadie all over Kailey's social media. She is a very spoiled girl by all her grandparents and her parents.
The day of the engagement, Jake and Kailey went to the Combat Air Museum in Topeka, Kansas. Like always, they held hands while on their way to and from the museum. Kailey caught him a few times looking at her hand, and eventually asked why he kept looking at her left hand. He played it off like she was crazy.
On their way back from the museum, their friend invited them to a bonfire in Cheney, Kansas. Jake told her it was an hour earlier than it really was to give himself time. While driving to Cheney, Jake used MacArthur Road for the route. He casually asked her if she would like to stop by Lake Afton at their spot for old time sake and she agreed.
Once they got to their spot, he kept the headlights on and turned on some music and grabbed her to two step. About half way through the song, Jake pulled out a ring and got down on a knee, and asked her to marry him. They got engaged on December 27, 2024 to Why Don't We Just Dance by Josh Turner.
