My mother and Jarell were friends before I had even laid eyes on him. Jarell began working with my mom and they immediately established a connection that neither of them could explain. Jarell has always said that she reminded him of his Aunt Latania who held a very special place in his heart. While they were at work, my mom would come downstairs and she would talk to him about EVERYTHING. She couldn't believe how honest and genuine he was and she appreciated that in him. She began to tell him about me and my friends and how she thought that we would all have fun hanging out listening to live music and poetry. She even threw in the fact that a few of my friends were from Maryland and with Jarell being from D.C., she knew he would be intrigued to hang out with someone that's from his neck of the woods. He was open to it but gave it no more thought. One day she began to ask him questions about relationships and dating. Jarell was caught off guard initially but was still honest with her and told her he was open to dating and meeting someone new... that was until she told him that it was me. Jarell was hesitant because of the relationship that he had already established with "Suge", his nickname for my mom. He felt that if he met me and one of us didn't like the other, he may lose the friendship that he had with Suge. Jarell is a very loyal person and didn't want to risk losing that friendship. He told her he would need to think about it and that he'd let her know. He thought about it for DAYS. LOL. Eventually, he was willing to give it a shot because he trusted her.<br><br></em></span><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.301961); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><em>One day, my mom came to work and asked Jarell what he had decided. He responded and said he didn't know and she told him that if he was worried about dating me, she had a back-up in mind. Jarell told her " I don't do second round picks". My mom texted me and made sure it was ok to give him my number and I told her yes. She would come home and tell me ALL ABOUT THIS YOUNG MAN AT WORK. "He is so handsome". "He is so sweet and genuine". She would brag about him all the time and I can't lie, I was interested. After she gave him my number, he texted me. We exchanged pleasantries and he said he would reach out to me when he went to lunch. Seeing that we both had iPhones, Jarell Facetimed me. I was so unprepared because I didn't have on my make up and I had my hair up in a puff on top pf my head, but that didn't stop him at all. It was his first time seeing me and I thought that it was so cool and sweet that he was willing to get to know me without asking for a picture first. This day and age, people are so caught up in looks but he was interested in my heart. I digress. Jarell was so cool and confident during our conversation. He spoke to me like he knew me and he made me feel so comfortable. His accent was so attractive to me and my mom was right about how genuine this man was. Let me say this too. If you've never really looked, you probably wouldn't notice but he has the softest and prettiest brown eyes I've ever seen and from his first glance, I could tell that he could "see me". We talked and decided to meet up after we got off of work at a local mall to get some yogurt. We agreed to meet <a href="x-apple-data-detectors://10" dir="ltr" x-apple-data-detectors="true" x-apple-data-detectors-type="calendar-event" x-apple-data-detectors-result="10">at 7 o'clock</a>. He was there before me and he waited for me to arrive before he went in. I pulled up and got out of my car and he walked over to me and hugged me. He smelled good.</em><br><br></span><br><br><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.301961); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"> </span><br></div></div></blockquote></div></div></blockquote>

Kaisha's Story

<p><i>I still remember that she was wearing a black maxi dress, with her denim jacket and combat boots in the middle of the summer. But most of all, I remember seeing the light in her smile. I pretended that I had never had frozen yogurt before and asked her to help me pick out flavors while we were in line. I got strawberry something or another. Then, we grabbed a table and sat down to get to know each other better. We talked about family, friends, music, and everything else. I even read some of my poetry to her. Shorty was impressed by the way I finessed those words. She was feeling me, and I was feeling her too. I mean she was smart, beautiful, funny, and did I mention THOSE LIPS? I knew there was something special about this girl. </i></p><p><i> <br> As we wrapped up the date, I walked her to her car and reluctantly watched her drive away. In my heart, I knew I didn't want to see her go. I'm kind of a shy guy but I had to, as they say, shoot my shot, so I sent her a voice message telling her that I really wanted to kiss her. As soon as I hit send, I got nervous thinking that I was way too forward and didn't want to put her off. I started to send another follow up message saying to disregard that, but before I could hit send she called me and said, "Where are you?" Your boy was smiling from ear to ear. I told her I wasn't far from the mall and she told me she wasn't either and to meet her there. We both drove back and I waited for her in the parking lot. My heart was pounding when I saw her step out of that car. I walked over to her, and stared deeply into her eyes as she stared into mine. It's like she was searching me. She still does this. She got a little bit nervous and started giggling, then I pulled her close to me and kissed her like I would never get to again.<br> <br> Fortunately for me, it wasn't the last time. And <a href="x-apple-data-detectors://11">on June 17, 2017</a>, I'll be saluting her at the altar as my bride.</i></p>
