Even though we went to high school together, it was hard for a freshman to catch the eye of a senior. It wasn’t until 2018 when she was bartending and he would show up to play softball and warm up with a beer at the bar. After he broke his foot (again!) he would sit on the sidelines and they had a few nights to get to know each other. Then she finally worked up the nerve to ask him to go to a karaoke contest with her where she performed, and should have won. They continued to see each other here and there until he drunkenly asked her to be his girlfriend. She said to him “ ask me again when you’re sober.” So the next morning he called and immediately asked “will you be my girlfriend?”
