Connor & I met 8 years ago as freshmen in high school. Throughout high school we were best friends, always with each other and always talking. Freshman year of high school, Connor asked me to be his girlfriend after band ball (a dance for students in band, I was his date) and I said no. Despite that, we continued to be friends through other relationships and hills and valleys of life. Flash forward to the summer before sophomore year of college when we both attended a 9-week discipleship program in Florida. There, I got to witness Connor pursue Jesus, and our two small groups spent a lot of time together. Once we got back to Stillwater for sophomore year, we started spending time together & going to date parties, watching movies, coffee, ect. Even though all of my friends continuously told me I liked him, I didn't think that I did; however, looking back now I think I was in denial. So when were were home on Thanksgiving break he asked me on a date. I said yes, and after three more he asked me to be his girlfriend!
We had been dating two years in January, and on March 10, Connor asked me to marry him in the sweetest way. After church Sunday morning, we were sitting in his car in my driveway. He told me there was something inside for me, but that he couldn't come inside because he had homework to get done. So I went inside and there was a bouquet of flowers with note that read "Kamika" on the front. I sat down at my table and opened the note. The first paragraph talked about how much he loved me and the reasons why. The next talked about my recent freak outs to my friends about not knowing when it was going to happen and how. I even thought he had changed his mind and was going to wait until May. hahaha, I truly had no idea. He then said in the letter that today was the day; he was getting down on one knee that day! Then the letter said my two best friends, Annie and Taylor, were behind a door waiting for me to say their names. They spent the day with me helping me get ready, get my nails done and drive me to the unknown destination. They drove me out to Lake McMurtry, and Connor was standing around a corner. I met him and he walked me through a wooded area where I then spotted my family, his family, his best friend and our pre-engagement pastor on the dock. Each one read a letter to us about our relationship and about us and how excited they were for us. We then walked down the dock where he had shadow boxes made of his favorite days with me. We kept walking and at the end on the dock he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said... YES!
