It was the closing day of Boardy Barn, the bar that sells more beer than Yankee Stadium and hands you smiley face stickers at entry. Kara had just finished her bartending shift nearby and Mike had taken the trip from Kings Park on the LIRR. While inside the bar, Kara stood holding multiple beers as you do at the Barn, talking with her two girl friends.. a guy came up to her and reached too close to her drinks for comfort and she told him to “go away.” She now had a new sticker on her hand and realized he wasn’t trying to roofie her drinks. Mike had gone up to Kara after his best friend had pointed out to him that his “future wife” was there. Hours had gone by, friends have left or been kicked out. Kara could feel the eyes of all the surrounding people on her, but couldn’t figure out why. She followed their eyes down and realized a guy was on his knee proposing with a ring made of the smiley stickers. One look into his blue eyes and she knew he would mean something to her, just not sure what yet. She thought his action was humorous so she encouraged it and jumped up and down screaming “yes!” as if the proposal was real. Pictures were taken and people thought they knew each other. Little did they know that they should had met many times before, and their paths had crossed and missed each other over the years. Mike told Kara he was from Kings Park, and she KNEW their families had to know each other. They spent the rest of their Sunday together. They both went home to tell their parents, she had met a Soria and he met a Manzi. They built a foundation of friendship and love & started over in a new city together, and after Kara graduated from the academy - Mike got back down on one knee at Boone Hall where the Notebook was taped, and he gave her a diamond ring instead of a ring made of stickers. His best friend was right, he had met his future wife that Sunday, at Boardy Barn.
