The Story of Us
Our journey began on Facebook, where we chatted for a few weeks before finally meeting in person on November 21, 2015. Our first date was at Bassett Mall, where we watched Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. That night, Angel asked the big question—"Will you be my girlfriend?"—to which Karel replied with a laugh, "I thought we were already dating?"
At the time, we were still in high school—Angel a junior, Karel a senior. We took the bus after school just to see each other, making the most of any time we could spend together. After graduation, we supported each other through college and work, all while living with our parents until we were ready to take the next step.
After five years together, we moved into our first place: a cozy one-bedroom apartment. We made it a home, living happily with Phoebe and later adopting our second fur baby, Nugget. Two years later, we upgraded to a townhouse for more space to grow as a couple. Another two years after that, we moved again—this time to the home we live in now.
The Proposal
In 2024, we decided it was time for a well-deserved vacation. Originally, we had planned a weekend getaway to Ruidoso, New Mexico. But when wildfires disrupted those plans, we made a spontaneous and slightly over-budget decision to fly to San Antonio—our very first plane trip together.
We spent two wonderful days exploring the River Walk, making unforgettable memories. On July 26, 2024, we had dinner reservations at a Brazilian steakhouse for a special date night. After stuffing ourselves silly, we walked back to our hotel in a total food coma—blissfully happy.
And then, 8 p.m., Karel was ready to lay down after a heavy meal, Angel asked her to stand up, but opted for sitting up instead. She had soon regretted not standing up because Angel stood in front and explained how much he had enjoyed this trip. He then said, “I hope this makes our trip even more amazing...", took out the ring box from behind his back and said "Will you marry me?” 💍
Through tears of joy, I said YES! We called our families right away, overwhelmed with excitement to finally say—we’re getting married!
Even though we had already strolled along the River Walk, this time felt different. Just 30 minutes after getting engaged, we saw each other in a new light—not just as boyfriend and girlfriend, but as future husband and wife.
