We have established a block of rooms at the Hyatt House in Pleasant Hill. This hotel has full kitchens, free breakfast buffet, free wi-fi, bar, pool, hot tub, outdoor fire pit seating area and grill, basketball court, free parking. (The hotel does not offer any shuttle service now. The hotel is located nearby BART, many restaurants, shopping and theater. Larger one- and two-bedroom rooms may be available. These are the prices of those with our group discount:

Additional nights, 3 days both before and after the 19th, the reduced rate is available under our wedding block reservation. This reservation block will expire June 30, 2024. Don’t delay though, we may release rooms earlier if too many are not booked.

Other Locations:

If you decide to rent an Airbnb or other Hotel, it is highly recommended that you stay in the Walnut Creek, Alamo, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, or Concord area so that you are close by for our event.

AIRPORTS

There are three airports in the area; San Francisco (SFO), Oakland (OAK) and San Jose (SJC).

SFO

SFO is by far the biggest, has the most flights and has the easiest public transportation of the three airports. SFO is about a 60-80 minute drive to Walnut Creek/Martinez. BART, the subway train, travels right into the SFO terminal and has direct trains (no transfers) to Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill. The BART ride is about 75 minutes.

OAK

OAK is the closest airport, is much smaller and easiest to navigate, but the flights are more limited and usually more expensive. The drive is about 30 – 40 minutes. You can take AIRBART from the Oakland airport, and transfer to BART train at Coliseum station and transfer BART trains at 19th Street Station to arrive at Pleasant Hill BART Station.

SJC

San Jose airport is about a 70-90 minute drive and can provide a favorable schedule and fare. However, Karen and Mark rarely use this airport. There is no public transportation from our area to SJC.

Public Transportation

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)

BART is a heavy rail metro train system that has trains that run every 7 – 20 minutes to our area, depending on the time of day. From our area, BART has direct trains to SFO, and of course San Francisco downtown. Check out BART.gov for detailed schedule and advance ticket purchasing.

Stations: Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre Station is the closest station to the nearby hotels and Mark’s house.

Fares: Seniors (>64) receive a 62% discount. Youths (5-18) receive a 50% discount and kids under 5 are free. BART fares are based on distance traveled. Unfortunately, there are no all-day tourist or multi-day passes available. For example, one way fares from SFO to Pleasant Hill station for adults is $12.85, Seniors is $4.80 and Youths is $6.40.

Tickets: The common ticketing system for most agencies in the Bay Area is the CLIPPER card. CLIPPER cards can be purchased in advance on-line. There is a one-time $3 fee for the card. You can avoid the one-time fee by using your smart phone as your CLIPPER card by downloading the clipper app. See BART.GOV for more info.

UBER/LYFT/TAXI

UBER/LYFT are readily available in the area. Taxis are usually waiting and available for walk-up service at the Pleasant Hill BART station.

CAR RENTALS

In additional to the multiple car rental agencies at the airport, there are local offices for Enterprise in Walnut Creek and Concord and Avis in Walnut Creek.
