Our Story

Our Story

Picture of Our Story

It all began in a rather unconventional way.

Kari and Sean first crossed paths among a group of friends, doing what we’d call "flow art" at the beach. It was a brief moment, but the universe had something special in store for us. Fast forward a few years, and fate reconnected us when a mutual friend moved into Kari’s share house, "The Palms." From that moment, things just clicked. We shared a love for diving deep into who we are and why we’re here. And trust us, we’re still figuring it out!

But the real test came early on. Almost as soon as we started dating, Sean left for a month long trip to Africa. It was a bit of a curveball right at the start of our relationship, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The time apart gave us space to grow individually and as a couple. From before the beginning, we often found ourselves in deep conversations, exploring a variety of topics and looking at them from every angle. If you know us, you know exactly what we mean. We’d explore depths of each other that few are willing to go, leaving us laughing, slightly less confused, and always more connected.

Kari is extraordinary in so many ways. She is kind, caring, and compassionate, always thinking about how she can help others emotionally, physically, and spiritually. She’s the one putting herself on the line when someone needs help, even if it’s something as random as sitting together in silence or offering advice on how to survive a particularly bad day. Her ability to be a support for others, even when she’s deep in the middle of something herself, is one of the countless reasons Sean feels incredibly lucky to call her his partner. She’ll also probably convince you that you can ‘totally’ eat a whole packet of biscuits in one sitting and still feel great about it (yes, they’ve tested this theory).

Sean, on the other hand, is a well of wisdom, always there to offer a kind ear and gentle strength. He teaches patience through his actions and understands and validates every human experience. You’ll often find him deep in thought, perhaps crafting something beautiful from wood, something you’ll see on our special day. His gentle strength is what Kari calls her secret weapon: his ability to remain calm and thoughtful, even when the world seems to be spinning a little too fast. It’s also a superpower for dealing with our “DIY adventures” when things don’t go to plan and the “I’m sure this will work” moments start to feel a bit less questionable.

While we sometimes struggle to meet each other where we’re at (like when Kari is overwhelmed with marking or Sean is lost in a new project), we complement each other beautifully. Kari brings the nurturing spirit, while Sean offers patience and wisdom. Together, we’re like one whole coin, each of us filling in the gaps the other can’t quite reach. Just like our shared passion for creating new experiences, our life together is all about growing, laughing, and sometimes getting a little lost on a spontaneous adventure, because we always say, “We’re not lost, just having fun.”

When it came time to propose, Sean chose the perfect place: Noosa Botanical Gardens. We’d visited the gardens earlier to consider it as a potential wedding venue, and during that visit, Sean popped the question. While we’d talked openly about marriage, the actual moment still caught Kari by surprise. In true Sean style, he’d made sure everything else was perfectly planned before surprising her. It was intimate, beautiful, and undeniably us, quirky, real, and full of love, with just a hint of dramatic suspense.

Our journey together has been full of growth, learning, laughter, and love. We can’t wait to continue writing our story, side by side, forever. And we’re so excited to share this next chapter with all of you, as we explore, dance in the kitchen, and maybe even get a little lost along the way.

We’re thrilled to have you all along for the ride!
