It all began with an accident one summer evening in 2019. Shane was rushed to the hospital that I work at after being injured. I was assigned as his nurse. We were instantly interested in each other. A month after that initial meeting, fate brought us together again. I was at a local bar with my sister. My sister noticed that this guy kept looking at me from across the bar and encouraged me to go up to him. As it turns out, Shane was also there with his friends. At first I didn’t recognize him, until he shouted “Weren’t you my nurse?!”. We spent the rest of the night chatting and sharing stories. As the night grew to an end, we exchanged numbers. I texted him that night that I had a great time and was so happy to have ran into him. At first I didn’t hear back from him and thought OMG that was too much. However, I woke up the next morning to a text from him saying he couldn’t wait to take me out on a date and when was I available.
Our relationship blossomed over that following year. We enjoyed countless adventures, from weekend getaways to quiet nights in. We lived an hour away from each other, but we always made it work. It became clear that we were meant to be together.
A little over a year after our first date, we started looking at houses together. We bought our house in 2020 and moved in together, turning a new chapter in our lives. Shortly after moving in together, we decided to expand our family by adopting a dog. We visited a local animal shelter and instantly fell in love with an adorable puppy named Tony, whose name we quickly changed to Cooper. We filled out the application forms and were able to take him home the next day. From the moment we brought him home, Cooper became an integral part of our lives. His boundless energy and affectionate nature brought us even closer, filling our home with joy and laughter.
On Christmas Day in 2022, Shane surprised me with the most unforgettable gift. After opening presents, Shane stated he had a special gift that was too big to fit under the tree. He sent me to our bedroom to wait for the surprise. As I waited for him to retrieve this mystery gift, I thought to myself, “Dear lord He got us another dog!” Curious and excited, I waited while he prepared. A few moments later, he called me out. As I stepped into the living room, I saw Shane down on one knee, the fireplace on the TV and music playing softly in the background. With our babies by his side, Shane asked me to marry him. Completely shocked and taken by surprise, I said yes, sealing our love story with a promise of forever.
We are now looking forward to the next chapter of our journey. On December 7th, 2024, we will be getting married. We are so excited to become husband and wife, and to share this special day with our family and friends.
