How We MetWe actually worked at the same PT clinic, but I started the week after Jeremiah’s last day—classic missed connection. We didn’t meet until months later when our mutual coworker, Vreni, introduced us. I wasn’t interested in dating anyone at the time, but Jeremiah pretty much decided he was obsessed with me. Joking aside, it was very sweet because he kept asking to hang out, even though I kept insisting we should just be friends. For the first few months, we spent a lot of time hiking and camping together. On one trip, we hiked up a 14er, which was 15 miles round trip. My dog, Aspen, hurt her paw on the way down, and Jeremiah didn’t hesitate to carry her nearly the whole way back. I think that’s when it hit me: he was always doing everything he could to make me feel happy and safe. And that’s all I’d ever wanted. Fast forward through 18 months of long-distance, he moved back to Denver—and in with me. :) Our HobbiesWe spend almost all our time together (which I know is gross), but he’s my best friend. We love hiking, climbing, playing chess, and doing crosswords before bed. We also have a major sweet tooth and go through random dessert phases—always circling back to red velvet cake. Favorite MemoryOne of my favorite memories is the time I tried to teach Jeremiah how to swim. It physically pains me to admit he’s good at almost everything, and I get way too competitive with him. But swimming is not his thing at all. The lesson was a mess. I took pictures. He was awful. I still laugh about it. The ProposalAfter a series of mild disasters, we finally just decided to go for it. We hiked to Emerald Lake in Estes Park, and he proposed on the frozen lake. Even though I knew it was coming, I (we) still cried. What's next?I know there will be more adventures, more laughs, and definitely more freezing hikes I get dragged on. But what I’m really looking forward to is a life with someone who goes grocery shopping with me, pours wine while we do chores, and always kills the spiders. Somehow, I tricked this incredible human into forever, and I couldn’t be happier. :)

How We MetIf the timing had worked out differently, we would’ve met at work but we just missed each other. Instead, we met later through our mutual coworker and now good friend, Vreni.At the time, I lived in Grand Junction, and Karla was in Denver. From the start, I was drawn to her warmth, beauty, and sense of humor. I kept finding very valid excuses to see her, which was basically asking her to hike with me. But it worked because she loved being in the mountains, I loved spending time with her, and well, now here we are. :) Favorite MemoryThe first time I took Karla to my hometown in Minnesota, we decided to “see the sights.” I'm from a small town, so this really meant stopping by the only bar around on a Thursday afternoon (when most responsible people were still at work). The second she heard all the thick, almost Canadian accents around us, her face lit up. Her getting a kick out of Minnesota accents is just something I’ll never forget. Our HobbiesWe both love spending time outdoors, rock climbing, campfires, and squeezing into tiny tents. But we also share a weird love for stand-up comedy. Over the years, we’ve watched hours of it on YouTube, Netflix, and even in person. Somehow, we both get just as much joy from watching new comedians awkwardly bomb as we do watching our tenured favorites. The ProposalI proposed at a frozen alpine lake in Colorado. It was absolutely freezing—but she still said yes. What’s Next?More adventures. More bad jokes. More reasons to laugh until we can’t breathe. And most of all, a lifetime with my best friend, exploring the world, navigating whatever comes our way, and making each other laugh through it all.
