Charles was born in Huntington, NY. Karlie was born and raised just a few miles away in Kings Park. Two towns, one destiny—and somehow, they never crossed paths… until one fateful night.Karlie was home from college for the weekend. Charles, about to head back to TBS in Virginia, decided to go out for “just one more night” with his buddies. As fate would have it, Karlie and her friends made a very last-minute decision to go out in Huntington. They ended up at a local Irish pub called Christopher’s.Enter: Tall, blonde, and handsome. Karlie spotted Charles walking in confidently, and immediately thought, Well, there he is. With the courage of someone who sensed this was about to be something special, she walked up and said hello. Charles looked at her, smiled, and said the now-iconic words:You are the cutest little thing.And just like that—game over.Soon after, they made plans for their first official date. Charles drove up from Virginia. Karlie drove home from Connecticut. There was a snowstorm. Like, a real one. But neither of them cared. Charles took his dad’s car (thank you Jim, for the snow tires) and headed to pick Karlie up—except he accidentally knocked on the wrong door. A house full of guys answered. When Charles said, “I’m here to pick up Karlie,” they just stared at him and said, “She doesn’t live here.” Charles, thinking this was one seriously overprotective group of family members, stayed polite… but definitely thought, wow, tough crowd.Then it clicked.“Ohhh… Karlie Walter? She lives two doors down.”With a sigh of relief (and probably a red face), Charles found the right house. And when he told Karlie what had just happened, she thought it was the funniest and cutest thing ever. From that moment on, she felt even more at ease—and even more smitten. From there, everything just clicked.Even with the long distance, their love made it feel easy. Charles was later deployed for eight months with the Marine Corps, but never once did he let that distance feel real. He wrote letters, sent surprise emails, had flowers delivered, and even somehow ordered Karlie’s favorite sweet potato tots… from Afghanistan. (Yes, really.) They met halfway on weekends, found ways to make the most of every moment, and always knew they were building something lasting.And now? They’re getting married. All because two people went out one night...

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

Black Tie Optional: Long dresses and suits or tuxedos are encouraged. Bright colors are especially beautiful this time of year and warmly welcomed! Most importantly, please wear something that makes you feel comfortable and like your best self, that’s what matters most to us.

WHERE SHOULD I STAY?

For convenience, we recommend staying at The Westin Savannah Harbor or somewhere downtown. The Westin offers easy access to the Savannah Ferry and is just a quick ride from downtown, t’s also where the reception will be held. Staying downtown is another great option if you’d like to be centrally located near shops, restaurants, and historic attractions. Check our parking page for more details on options if you stay at the Westin or downtown. Keep in mind that downtown hotels tend to be more expensive due to higher room rates and parking costs. Midtown Savannah hotels are generally more affordable, with free parking and lower nightly rates, and are just a short drive or Uber ride from downtown.

ARE KIDS INVITED?

We love your little ones, but our wedding will be an adults-only celebration, with the exception of immediate family and children participating in the bridal party.

IS THERE A SHUTTLE SERVICE?

Not at this time. For now, please plan on driving to the ceremony and reception, taking the ferry, walking, or using a rideshare service such as Uber or Lyft. This weekend has turned out to be one of the busiest wedding weekends in Savannah (who knew!), so finding available shuttles for our date has been difficult. If anything changes and a shuttle becomes available, we’ll update the Hope page with the details.

CAN YOU SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT THE FERRY

The Savannah Belles Ferry offers free river crossings between downtown River Street and Hutchinson Island (where the Westin is located), making it a fun and easy way to travel back and forth during your visit. NOTE: The ferry is a free service that the Town of SAV pays for. You can use it as often as you need to. Operating Hours:Daily: Generally, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week. Frequency:Ferries run frequently throughout the day, typically every 10–30 minutes, so you won’t wait long between departures. Route &amp; Landings:The ferry crosses the Savannah River and stops at• City Hall Landing on River Street (near downtown)• Waving Girl Landing on River Street (closest to the AC Hotel)• Trade Center/Westin Landing on Hutchinson Island, right by the Westin. Duration:The Savannah Belles Ferry crossing over the Savannah River is very quick. The ride itself typically takes about 10 minutes from one landing to the other, depending on conditions. Enjoy a scenic, free ride between downtown River Street and Hutchinson Island The ferry is a free service that runs between Riverfront and Hutchinson Island (right near the Westin). Fun Fact: Charles and I live on Hutchinson Island, right next to the Westin, so we hop on the ferry almost every day.
