Our Wedding

We met online in early 2018. For our first date we had dinner at Rare Bird in Traverse City, that night also happened to be trivia night at the restaurant and an announcer kept intermittently reading at loudspeaker volume, we were therefore intermittently shouting to one another to be heard, which made for a lot of laughable moments that night. We continued talking and met again to watch the Michigan basketball game on St. Patricks Day. After first meeting over tacos and then celebrating our favorite team's win, we knew we had a good thing going.We enjoy spending time at Eric's family's cottage on Higgins Lake, traveling to visit friends and family and we have a tradition of going on trips in lieu of birthday and Christmas gifts - most recently traveling to Wisconsin and Montana.&nbsp;We feel lucky to live close to Eric's younger sister Gretchen and her three children. We love hosting family and friends at our home in Traverse City, MI where we live with our three cats.

During Kasey's family Christmas celebration, after the excitement from Santa's visit and opening presents, Kasey's grandmother, Deloris Moore, had a card to open in front of the family. Kasey was asked to come sit next to her while she read the card, the last line of the card read And I have an important question to ask you, will you be Eric's wife. There were many cheers and hugs and well-wishes, Kasey's brother and sister-in-law were able to join on FaceTime to share in the celebration. We toasted with champagne and smiled all night long. The engagement ring holds a special sentimental value because the center stone is from a ring that belonged to Eric's paternal grandmother.Following the engagement Eric and Kasey traveled to see his sister Kristin, brother-in-law Ashley and niece Teagan; Indianapolis to see cousins and celebrate a milestone in the family; and lastly to Lake Orion, MI in time to celebrate Christmas with and Aunt and cousins on the other side of Eric's family - it really was a season of joy.

Our Engagement

Eric was born in Santa Rosa, CA and moved to Elk Rapids, MI when he was two where he was raised with his three sisters Suzie, Kristin, and Gretchen. He attended Santa Barbra City College studying Film &amp; English and remained in California for 5 years, living part of the time with dear family friends from Higgins Lake. Eric moved to Traverse City in 2001 and has enjoyed a career in account management for various companies. Eric currently works at C.H. Robinson and handles logistics for the Big Three, he has been there since 2012. He ; trips to "the cottage";&nbsp;visits to see family in Indianapolis, IN, Plainfield, IL and Lake Orion, MI; and watching sports of all kind, especially Indy racing and the Michigan Wolverines.Kasey was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI with her younger brother Matt.&nbsp;After high school she attended to Michigan State University graduating with a BS in Parks &amp; Recreation and went to work for Texas State Parks in 2010. Kasey moved back to Michigan in 2012 after accepting a position with the Department of Natural Resources in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 2016 she moved to Traverse City where she completed her masters in Public Administration from Central Michigan University, and is currently a district supervisor for the DNR. Kasey spends her free time outdoors with friends; visiting her family in Ann Arbor, MI, and Charlotte, NC; and playing in a hockey league.

Bach Party

We will be celebrating our impending nuptials with friends in Traverse City just ahead of our wedding on Thursday, September 22ndWe invite everyone who can make it to an open-house-style lounge day at the lake on the 23rd (details in the Itinerary tab). The bachelor/bachelorette attendees will arrive to Higgins sometime on Friday the 23rd to join in!

We are not planning&nbsp;a traditional bridal party and instead will have family and special guests involved in the ceremony and reception. There will be a processional, and speakers at the ceremony and reception.

The location

The Pinewoods Association is one of three adjacent private associations on the northeast shore of Higgins Lake. Eric's ancestors built the A.L. Taggart cottage in 1909 which is still enjoyed in the summer by three branches of his paternal family.&nbsp;A number of relatives built cottages throughout Pinewoods and bought, built or married into families in the other two associations, Cottage Grove and Lakeside. Each association has a dining hall and community rec areas. Old Stage Road connects the three associations, there is also a path along the lakeshore that is shared and links the associations.

Fall color change will likely be off to a start. Daytime temps can range from mid-60s to low-80s, nighttime temps will be chilly - check weather before leaving!Flats or chucky heels recommended.Expect to be walking along unlit dirt paths and over uneven ground. There will be many different signs and markers guiding your way.

Staying in a cottage?

A majority of the wedding guests will be staying on-site in cottages. More information on the specifics of the cottages will be emailed Labor Day weekend. You must RSVP by September 2nd to be considered for a cottage, we are currently estimating placement based on best guesses.Each cottage will be marked with a color of balloon on the front and back doors so cottage guests can easily identify their cottage, and party go-ers, will know who is apart of the festivities.

Things to do

There are walking trails around the association, several golf courses in the area, a lake that is great for swimming and paddle sports, two state parks on the north and south shores, a paved trail at the north state park and quiet county roads great for bike riding, quaint downtown area with small markets and a grocery store.

There are no transportation options except extremely limited Uber/Lyft or private taxi services. We plan to have some drivers available to help transport to airports - planning for that will formalize as the dates get closer. All activities are open house style, feel free to enjoy and explore as independently or gather as you wish - the couple will be around Eric's family's cottage all day, the same location as the ceremony. You are welcome to join us anytime! A number of privately-owned family cottages have been offered for rent for the occasion and offer their own lakefront gathering areas as well. BYOB and snacks.10:30am-3pm LOUNGING AROUND THE LAKEThe ladies will arrive from Traverse City post-bachelorette party late-morning.
