We met in highschool Physics Class and were randomly paired to be lab partners. Later that year, we went to senior prom together and dated for years afterward.We have been together for last five years exploring the mountains in Colorado with Maple and Monk.

Our story

Our Story

Kasie and Logan will be hiking to the top of Berthoud Pass to say their vows with a small private party.  This is an informal event. We will not be saying our vows to everyone, please do not expect to see an event at the top.  We invite guests to experience our love of the mountains by sharing the experience of the hike. We invite ALL wedding guests to join the hike starting between 7:45-8:00 am.

 There is a rustic warming hut with bathrooms at the trail head. There is ample parking at the top.  The trail begins across the road from the parking lot. The hike is about 2.8 miles round trip, out and back 1.4 miles each way. The elevation change is about 1200 feet. This is a strenous hike. Water, sunscreen, and warm clothes will be required. This is an OUT and BACK trail.

The Ceremony

Please visit the RMNP website! A timed entry permit is required for entry. Lots of moose in the area, especially in the evening or morning. Note: most people enter the park through the Este’s side. There is an entrance near Grand Lake that is much quieter and only about an hour away from Winter Park. If you take highway 35 through the park, please know that it is NOT a loop.

The venue of our reception is also a muesum that highlights the ecology of the area. It is open Monday-Thursday from 9-5 and would be great option for families who are looking for something to do inbetween the hike and the reception. Kids enter free and adult tickets are 10$ each. We recommene stopping by if you have the chance. There are walking trails and lakes behind the center.

Grand Adventure Balloon Tour 

The small town of Grand Lake is one of our favorite places to stop. There are little shops along the boardwalk. You can rent kayaks, boat tours and canoes on Grand Lake. We recommend Sage Bush BBQ, Cy’s Deli, Bighorn Bagels and Miyauchi Snack Bar.

13 mile out and back trail that starts in Fraser and goes through winter park into National Forest. The addess listed will take you to the start in Fraser. You can also park at the Head Waters center, walk around the pond and meet up with the trail!

Fraser River Trail

Kasie’s favorite hike in the area. Its about a 4 mile loop around Monarch Lake. The trail is not far from Winter Park but there is about 7 miles of gravel road to get to the trailhead. This is one of the few trails in the area that is relatively flat; bring water and sunscreen. There are hundreds of miles of trail that branch off of this loop if you want to go further.

Take the Gondola up at Winterpark Resort and mountain bike down the mountain. There are many bike rentals options in Winterpark and hundred of miles of trail systems.

Idaho Springs is a town on the way to Winter Park where we often stop for food or coffee! Food: Main Street Restaurant (family favorite for brunch), Beau Jo’s (Local fav, Pizza), MTN Prime, Tommyknockers, The Frothy Cup (coffee), Edelweiss Pastry Shop (Melanie’s favorite), The Vintage Moose (local bar) Things to do near Idaho Springs: Genesee Park (Local Buffalo Herd, favorite trail: Genesee Mountain Trail), Phoenix Gold Mine Tour (great for kiddos), Indian Hot Springs

Things to Do

There are many airbnbs and vrbos within walking distance.  There a few towns nearby that you could stay in. These include; Fraser, Grandby, Tabernash and Grand Lake.

We will not be having a traditional wedding party since we are saying our vows on trail rather than in a formal cermony. We have so many people that we wanted to be apart of our big day.   We are so grateful for our friends and family willing to make the trip and cannot wait to spend the whole weekend celebrating!

There is alot of wildlife in this valley including: moose, bear, mountian lions, wolves, big horn sheep, elk, mule deer and more. Please remember to give all wildlife lots of space. Moose are very territorial and there are alot of them this area. Please do not approach them.

Wildlife

Altitude sickness is very real and we have had many out of town guests suffer from it. Symptoms are broad but can include; fatigue, headache, stomach ache, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath and more. DRINK WATER! Please drink more than water than you think is necessary. This will help prevent it. If you get symptoms; drink fluids with electrolytes, take tylenol/ibuprofen, and rest. If symptoms get serious, you have to drop elevation.

Altitude Sickness

The weather in this area in August is usually pretty warm. Most airbnbs do not have air conditioning because the temperature drops signifcantly at night. As you climb elevation, the temperature will also drop. Remember to bring sweatshirts and pants! The sun is also much more intense in Colorado so wear more sunscreen than usual. It is very common to get thunderstorms in the afternoon at high elevation- usually these storms are short but the lightening can be intense.
