Our Story

Getting to Key West

We're so excited to have guests from all over the country and possibly, world! We know it's asking a lot to have you come to a remote location but we hope you'll make it since we couldn't see ourselves getting married anywhere but our favorite place. Key West is accessible by flying, driving, and boating. Here is a brief run down of your options:Flying: most flights go through Miami and can be pricey as KW has a very small airport. However, there are a lot of options available if you go that route (Delta, American and Silver Airways).Driving: We recommend this option! Driving down from Miami on the Overseas Highway is one of the best road trips in America. It's about 150 miles and will take 3 hours, but there is much to see on the way down. Check out what National Geographic has to say about it <a href="http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/road-trips/florida-keys-road-trip/" target="_blank">here. </a>Boating: If you are lucky enough to live in Southwest Florida (looking at you, Rosenblatts), the Key West Express Ferry leaves every morning for a fun booze cruise over the Gulf of Mexico. Also, if you have your own boat, I suppose you could get there that way too. I don't know your life, but I don't think we're inviting any private yacht folks, so this is probably not an option.

Accommodations 

We recommend booking early! We tried to pick a date that was after Spring Break but before KW gets very hot. It's a popular time, so in order to stay where you'd like, it's better to get it booked soon.Please feel free to stay at either Waldorf Resort- our venue, The Reach OR Casa Marina (they are a block away from each other) with a 10% discount for our wedding guests. We've seen some great places on AirBNB and VRBO in addition to TONS of hotels. Another favorite of ours is <a href="http://www.southernmostbeachresort.com/?_ga=1.26241022.2146801714.1465166209" target="_blank">The Southernmost Resort</a>, also located very close to The Reach. You can also stay on a nearby key. Anything south of Big Pine Key will be easily accessible from Key West.

What to do in Key West

The Hemingway Home

Our favorite! This was <a href="http://www.hemingwayhome.com/" target="_blank">Ernest Hemingway's home</a> for over a decade. It's surrounded by beautiful gardens and is a great place to spend a few hours.

Water Sports of all kinds 

We've enjoyed snorkeling on the reef (the only living reef in North America) that is about 50 minutes by boat off of Key West. <a href="https://www.furycat.com/" target="_blank">Fury Water Adventures </a>offers all kinds of on-the-water adventures and has great customer service. I've heard great things about the jet ski tours around the island- lots of dolphin sightings.

Dry Tortugas/Fort Jefferson

Cross a National Park off of your bucket list! <a href="https://www.nps.gov/drto/index.htm" target="_blank">The Dry Tortugas</a> are accessible only by ferry from KW or sea plane. This is a day-long trip, so plan in advance. Crystal clear waters, history and white sand beaches.

Sunset Celebration in Mallory Square

All you have to do is show up around sunset on any given day. The square is full of buskers and food vendors to enjoy while watching Key West's very colorful sunsets. We personally like enjoying a cocktail on <a href="http://www.oceankey.com/key-west-sunset-pier.aspx" target="_blank">Sunset Pier</a>, which is right next door.

Duval Street

Famed Duval Street is where you will find a lot of Key West's bars, shops, and art galleries. Some of it is touristy, but some of it is truly charming. Our rule of thumb is that you must consume at least one ridiculously fruity, frozen cocktail per visit.

Green Parrot

If you're going to a bar: <a href="http://www.greenparrot.com/">go to this bar</a>. You won't regret it.

Cuban Coffee Queen

You need Cuban coffee, ASAP. Go to <a href="http://www.cubancoffeequeen.com/">Cuban Coffee Queen</a>. They also deliver! You should order a colada to share and Cuban toast. One time, I (Kat) picked up a red macaw that was hanging out next to the cafe. They didn't like that, and you don't want to upset the people who make this delicious coffee. Hands off the bird.

What about Zika?

Should I worry about Zika?

NO! It seems news about Zika is everywhere, but the fact is, there have been no cases of locally transmitted cases in the Florida Keys. If you are still worried, you can always use a bug spray while outdoors. Anecdotally, we have never had a bug bite of any kind while spending time in Key West, despite being outdoors the majority of the time.
