Our Wedding

In late 2020, Nora was trying to get back into the outdoor education world after almost a year of living with her parents (which was actually a really great experience, #podforever). When Nature's Classroom announced that they were reopening for a spring season of traveling outdoor ed, she was the very first instructor hired.   In early 2021, 5000 miles away, Kate loved living in a tropical climate but hated her job and was looking for an exciting change. One facebook post later (shout out to wedding guest Trish for making the post and hiring both Kate and Nora), Kate decided she could brave the cold weather in Massachusetts for one season with this crazy outdoor ed company called Nature's Classroom New England.   Of course, Kate's plans to move somewhere warmer again were foiled when she met Nora (and fell in love with teaching outside). In an attempt to woo Kate, Nora wrote and illustrated a book about Moose (#outdooreducatorromance). Kate knew right then, that she was going to spend the rest of her life with Nora. It took Nora almost 3 years to get on board.   After 6 seasons together at Nature's Classroom, 2 summers at Camp Howe, briefly living with Nora's parents together after only 6 months of dating (a totally normal step in every relationship), approximately 12,000 miles of winter road tripping, 13 moves, and around 2 years of Nora being Kate's direct supervisor, we decided that we can handle just about anything together.   We got engaged at 11 a.m. on a Friday, sitting in our living room. No one had planned it. Immediately after, we went to the DMV and then to Target (both unrelated to the proposal). We agreed pretty quickly that the most important part of a wedding for us is having a really fun party with everyone we love (plus, like, tax benefits and making the eventual process of becoming parents together simpler).   We hope that you will join us in celebrating our love!

Kate's cabinmate for two summers, Nora's right hand woman for one, previous owner of a spare bedroom we spent many nights in, and a deeply generous friend who has taught us both a lot about love in all its forms.

Kate and Jasper joined Nora’s family the same year, and they became fast friends. You can find the two of them playing under a table together, practicing their Spanish, and experimenting with creative bowling techniques.

Jesse's working hard on his locomotion skills with the goal of being able to walk down the aisle by November...we'll forgive him if he can't manage it, though, since he will only be 14 months old at the time of the wedding.

In a highly disputed event at Thanksgiving in 2001, Nora threw her shoe at Ben and it hit the window behind him, shattering it. She still agreed to be the best woman at his wedding, and now he’s agreed to be the best man at hers.

When Kate was a baby, her brother Charlie was her favorite person in the whole world. Through the middle school and high school years, that might not have always been true, but they came out on the other side not hating each others guts. In 2020, Charlie even liked Kate enough to let her live on his couch for a month when she was unemployed.

Nora and Erin were cabinmates at camp in 2009, but the friendship was really cemented the next summer when they schemed together how they would get Nora’s camp crush to make a move. That guy is happily married to someone else now, and soon Nora will be too.

In Kate's second year of college she had to find a group to do projects with for the full semester in her group facilitation class. She ended up with two people she had never met, one of which was Jackie, a new transfer student. After Kate talked Jackie into working with her at Mountain Challenge (where Jackie still works and is now the Assistant Director, you're welcome Jackie), their friendship was solidified.

Nora was a CIT in Kris' cabin in 2012, thought she was an impossibly cool adult role model, and never could have predicted that a decade later they'd be drinking cocktails and watching reality TV together while their wives play D&D.

Lauren and Kate first met in 2019 when Lo moved into the same house as Kate in Hawai’i. They became fast friends and have had lots misadventures together since. Lo and Kate have changed many a flat tire together.

The best hostess we know (and we've spent a LOT of time on that futon), the best chef, the best hypewoman, Billy's favorite playmate. Possibly the only person more excited about this wedding than the brides. Ask Rachel about her wedding-related spreadsheets and day-of emergency kit.

The biggest fight of the wedding planning was whose side Sam would stand on. (Want to know who won that fight? Come to the wedding to find out!) If anything happens to the two of us, Sam gets Billy.

When Nora and Sarah were roommates, Nora would read chapters of Nancy Drew aloud while Sarah cleaned up her side of the room. When they were co-counselors, they would set an alarm for 10 minutes before they needed to wake their campers up and one would crawl into the other’s bed for early morning snuggles. They have never had a phone call that lasted less than an hour.

Kate is pretty sure that when she was a baby Savannah tried to kill her so that Kate wouldn't take her place as the youngest grandchild. The proof is in this photo. Despite this, Kate and Savannah became very close (once Kate got over being afraid of her). Now, Kate can't imagine not having Savannah there with her on her wedding day.

On the night before commencement, Nora and Will got in trouble with campus security for smoking cigars on the roof of their dorm - astonishingly the first time security ever told them off, although there were a whole bunch of other things they probably should have gotten in trouble together for over the previous four years.

If you’re flying in, Burlington has several arrivals each day from New York and Chicago, and is just a 30 minute drive from our venue - with multiple car rental options in Burlington.

Burlington International Airport

We have a block of rooms reserved. This hotel is in South Burlington, with shuttle access to and from the airport. We will also be arranging a shuttle from this hotel to the wedding venue and back. Call (802)865-3400 to reserve a room with the Liggett Hill block.

The Inn at Burlington

There is free camping at the venue! There are 4 lean-tos, and a very large grassy meadow for pitching tents. It is unlimited and free, so no need to make a reservation. Showers and bathrooms are available in the basement of the inn. Bring your own towels please.You may bring an RV or camper for wedding weekends and park in the parking lot. We have three places you can plug in for electricity (120 volt, 20 amp outlets). It is included for those staying with a wedding party. No need to make a reservation.

One of the things we love about our venue is its incredible natural setting! Sleepy Hollow includes miles of trails and stunning views of Vermont foliage and nearby Camel’s Hump. We highly encourage arriving early to take a stroll before the ceremony!

Located 30 minutes from the wedding venue, Burlington, VT is a small city on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain. There are plenty of things to do in Burlington including walking around Church Street Marketplace, visiting various museums, and enjoying the parks on the waterfront.
