Q + A

Do I have to RSVP?

Yes, ya do! Due to limitations in reception seating and meals, accommodations will not be made for those who do not RSVP by the deadline provided. If you cannot make it, we will miss you! But please continue to RSVP with "Can't Make It" so we are aware.

What should I wear?

Excellent question! Cocktail attire is recommended and what you wear to US weddings also works in Turkey. Time to get snazzy!

Is there a registry?

Aligning with Turkish tradition, there will be no registry. Instead at Turkish weddings, guests bring a gold bangle or gold piece of jewelry to gift to the couple or cash to pin to their clothing during a specific point at the wedding reception. For any of our international guests, please do not feel inclined to partake as your gift to us is your presence after your long travels.

What is August weather like in Ankara?

Plan accordingly as the temperature will cool off in the evening and our wedding will be outdoors. Temperatures in August range from a high of mid-80F to low-60F.

Is it recommended to stay in Ankara?

Glad you asked! Yes, it is. Istanbul, even though a short flight away, is too far to trek back and forth to on our wedding day.

Can I bring a plus one?

Although we would love to accommodate everyone who wants to come, unfortunately plus one's, if not stated on your wedding invitation, are not possible given the capacity of our reception location and financial restraints.

Can I bring my child/children?

Great question! If the invite is addressed to your family and/or includes your child's name, please bring your children if you'd like.

Is there a bar?

There will be water and sodas available. Alcohol TBD.

What is a Turkish Wedding Like?

Dancing. Lots of dancing. The bride and groom will enter together and sit at a table with their officiant and two guests who will act as witnesses for their wedding ceremony. Apart from that, it mirrors US weddings pretty similarly with first dances, eating, and cake cutting. Before the reception is over, there will be a time for guests to give gold/cash to the couple if they'd like as their wedding gift (see previous Q&A).
