Kate & Duncan's story is a classic tale of "opposites attract."
While Duncan grew up in the Pacific Northwest (Bellevue, WA) spending weekends skiing in the snowy mountains at Crystal, Kate was being raised in Southern California (San Marino, CA) spending weekends on her family's boat in sunny Catalina Island. In 2014, Kate moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington and graduated in 2018. Duncan decided to pursue an electrical career after graduating from Eastside Catholic in 2017.
In early 2019, Kate fell in love...with Tia. That's right, Kate met Duncan's dog before she met Duncan, and it was love at first sight. While living in Ballard after graduation, Kate's roommate (who happened to be friends with Duncan) brought Tia home while she was helping babysit the precious pup. The loving Pitbull/German Shepard mix reminded Kate of her family's dog, Roxy, and they had an instant bond. Little did they know, Kate & Tia would soon be spending a LOT more time together!
Duncan & Kate met for the first time when their friends introduced them to one another in early 2019, just after Kate had met Tia. They went to a bar down the street where they played pool and shared one of their favorite foods, onion rings. They began to develop a friendship and crossed paths a few more times that year, but it wasn't until later that they hung out again and realized they had more than just a friendship. In the fall of 2019, Duncan & Kate started their relationship, with Tia playing a key role in their story ever since.
Despite realizing just how different they were from one another, Duncan & Kate formed a strong bond over the years and discovered that their differences are what made them such a great team. They have grown immensely individually and as a couple over the years that they have been together, proving to overcome any life obstacles that come their way, and making it out stronger than they were before.
They have learned to delve into each others hobbies and have discovered new passions of their own, Kate learning to ski again and enjoying snowy trips to different mountains, while Duncan has grown to love the vacations in the sunshine, constantly rooting for the UW Huskies, and has even developed a tolerance for EDM & true crime.
Some of the highlights of their relationship include spending time close to home at Crystal Mountain, on the Cedar River & Lake Washington. They've enjoyed road trips up to Canada, Idaho & Oregon, ski trips to Revelstoke, Salt Lake City, and Sun Valley, sunny vacations to Catalina Island, Palm Springs, Cabo, and the the San Juans, and love to attend Seahawks, Husky, and Mariners (when they're playing the Dodgers...) games.
Duncan & Kate now reside in Maple Valley, WA in a house that they have turned into their home. They constantly support one another in their chosen careers - Kate started as a full-time real estate agent in 2022, and Duncan is still working in electrical where he continues to further his education and licensing.
One of the interests that the couple has shared throughout their relationship is their love for dogs. Duncan & Kate added a new member to their family in late 2022, their beloved Catahoula Leopard Dog, Maya. Tia & Maya are the center of their lives, and continue to bring them endless joy!
On August 5, 2023, Duncan took Kate to their favorite river spot and got down on one knee and proposed. Afterwards, with no cell phone service on an empty river bed, they enjoyed the sandwiches they packed and the nature surrounding them, and took in the moment just the two of them (plus their dogs, of course). Later that afternoon, they got home to an engagement party surrounded by family, and they spent the rest of the weekend sharing the news with their long-distance family and friends.
Duncan & Kate are looking forward to what the future has in store for them. They couldn't be more excited for the year ahead full of celebrations with family and friends, and to start their journey as a married couple!
