Kate & Karl

June 8, 2019 • Marshall, MN, USA

The Beginning

Karl and Kate had been good friends for many years prior to dating, but Karl always had a crush on Kate. Karl eventually worked up the nerve to ask Kate out back in high school, and she said no. About 3 times! Then, when she graduated high school, the timing felt right and Kate (finally) said yes! The rest was history and they have been together ever since.

They did the long distance relationship thing throughout college as Karl attended the U of M and Kate was in Rochester at UMR. Karl put many miles on his Chevy truck driving between cities for Rochester weekends. Although it was hard at times, the distance made them stronger and they appreciated every moment they had together.

After college, Kate was accepted into PA school in Milwaukee and Karl made the move with her to Lake Michigan! They loved exploring a new city together and making great friends. Karl mastered sailing and Kate pretty much studied for two years straight. They even added a furry member to their family, Nora!

Kate accepted a job back in their hometown of Granite Falls, MN as a PA in primary care and Karl was able to secure a job with Eaton working remote. They packed up their lives (and Nora) and made the move back to Granite, where it all began. They bought a house in town and have been busy with all the fun that comes with owning a home! They are happy to be back in their hometown, close to family and friends. Kate can't wait to officially become a Hegna!

Our Engagement

After PA school, Karl took Kate on a trip to California to visit Yosemite National Park (where he planned to propose). They took the Amtrak train to Reno, which was filled with sketchy people (Karl had the ring in his bag the entire time). They spent a night at Lake Tahoe, where they had the most perfect day. Karl suggested they go star gazing that night (where he was going to propose early), but Kate said no because it was raining (duh).

They made their way through the twisting mountain roads to Yosemite. The sites were beautiful, but the sky was very hazy because of the surrounding wild fires. They spent the whole day hiking and this time when Karl suggested stargazing, Kate said yes! They traveled 45 minutes up to Glacier Point, which overlooked the entire Yosemite Valley. The overlook was deserted except for them. They began taking pictures and Karl got very quiet. He started talking about all the adventures they had been on over the years. Then, he got down on one knee, and asked Kate to go on the greatest adventure with him. Of course, Kate said yes right away! It was perfect. They spent the rest of the trip in their happily engaged bubble and enjoyed each others company.

The wedding will be on June, 8 2019. Which is our 9 year "dating" anniversary. We can't wait to say "i do" and spend the rest of our lives together. Can't wait to celebrate with you all! Here's to our next adventure!
