Kate and Kyle met in the driveway of the home that they now share. Kate was looking for a tenant to rent out her basement, and Kyle was looking for a place to call home.
Kate’s story: Kyle arrived half an hour early for his appointment to view the apartment and there was another potential renter inside, so I asked him to leave. As he walked away I remember thinking that he wasn’t coming back. To my surprise, Kyle and his daughter Lily walked into the backyard 20 minutes later to check out the basement apartment that I was renting. After a quick look at the place Kyle told me he was interested. For the next 5 minutes we stood in the backyard rapid firing questions to each other about tenant/landlord expectation, vaccines, and smoking (he lied to my face!). We quickly bonded over shared experiences and his upcoming trip to Nova Scotia.
As he walked away from our appointment I knew that I was going to rent to him. No question.
When Kyle came to sign the rental agreement, something that should have taken 5 minutes, took an hour. We sat outside and filled the space and time so effortlessly I wished that I didn’t have to leave for work. We agreed that once Kyle returned home from Nova Scotia he would start moving his stuff in. I told him about my Nova Scotian roots and while he was there he sent me a picture of the bluenose…. which really got my attention and my heart skipped a beat.
Once Kyle had moved in and was settled I invited him to come upstairs for a drink and to hear all about his trip. The drink turned into a bottle and a full night of stories, laughter, and connection. I knew that night that Kyle and I were meant to meet each other, to grow together, and to love one another.
Kyle’s story: Don’t believe the ^above ^.
All it took was one look and I had her attention ;)
