Our story begins about a year prior. We started talking on a dating app called Bumble. Kate was moving to Cedar Rapids though, and (in Luke’s words) “ghosted” Luke! A year later, the app was redownloaded and conversation struck up again. We finally decided to meet up in Des Moines, and our first date was at Tumea and Sons Italian Restaurant. Kate bought a new outfit for the occasion, not realizing that the sensor from the store was still stuck to her jeans! Of course, she didn’t notice this until the middle of the date. Fearful that Luke would think she stole the jeans, she kept trying to roll them up over the sensor!

Thankfully, the date went so well that we had already planned the second and third dates by the end of the evening. Luke spoke a lot about his friends and his family as did Kate. Many of the conversations that took place were very futuristic and we both realized at that time that maybe this could be it….
