Spring 2019:

Katelyn was a senior in high school at the time and about to graduate. One weekend she went up to UNI with her best friend Taryn and they were gonna stop and see Ben. He decided not to answer the phone which ended up in them driving back to Lisbon. As they were heading out of Cedar Falls, Taryn looks at Katelyn and she remembers the exact words Taryn said, “You should date Ben!” In the moment Katelyn was thinking this guy would not want to date someone just getting out of high school.

April 20, 2019

Ben decides to ask Katelyn out on their first date. He did not think she was going to say yes, so when she did he had to come up with a plan quick. They ended up going to Applebees for half price apps. After their first date they decided to hang out some more when he would come home from UNI.

May 3, 2019,

Katelyn and Ben are golfing when Ben decides to pop the question and to make things official. Katelyn in the moment thought he was joking cause he would make jokes about making things official weeks before. Turns out he was asking the real question and she of course said “yes.”

May 2021

After Ben graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with his degree in Elementary Education the couple decides to move to Cedar Rapids where they currently are now. It was the halfway point of Ben's drive to Center Point-Urbana Intermediate and Katelyn's drive to Iowa City as she was finishing up her degree in Elementary Education at the University of Iowa.

April 21, 2022

They end up going golfing at the same golf course he asked her out. Throughout the round of golf Ben was not acting like his usual self, but Katelyn had no idea of anything happening. They were on the last hole the exact same place Ben asked her out at, and got down on one knee and popped the question, “Will you marry me?” after her saying, "Is this real?" multiple times, she said "YES!" With the help of Ben's sister Marie and her husband Austin they were able to pull this off without Katelyn knowing.

May 2023-June 2023

Katelyn graduate from Iowa with her degree in Elementary Education and would later accept a 5th grade job at the same school Ben teaches at.
