Katelyn Stewart and Mitch Holland’s love story began as friends during their freshman year at KU. They shared moments of laughter and camaraderie, but life seemed content to keep them as friends during those early days. Time passed, and while they went their separate ways, their bond quietly lingered. Fast forward to June 2020, a time when the world was at a standstill during the peak of Covid. Isolation had a way of bringing clarity, and for Katelyn and Mitch, it also brought opportunity. A casual text turned into long facetime conversations, rekindling a connection that had never truly faded. Separated by miles—Mitch in Denver and Katelyn in Chicago—their relationship blossomed despite the challenges. Long phone calls filled with laughter and meaningful conversations bridged the distance, and the excitement of seeing each other made every trip worth it. They traveled back and forth, navigating airports and road trips, building memories in both cities. Their love story is one of commitment and effort, proving that even during one of the most uncertain times in history, love can find a way to flourish.

An Unconventional Love Story

This past year is one we will never forget, full of challenges we never expected and strength we didn’t know we had. In early 2025, our world shifted when I was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a rare condition that turned life upside down in a moment. What followed was a year defined not by fear, but by resilience, hope, and the unwavering love we discovered all over again. When doctors told us I would need a bone marrow transplant, everything suddenly became fragile. There were long hospital days, quiet nights filled with worry, and moments when the weight of the unknown felt too heavy to carry. But in every single one of those moments, Mitch was there, steady, calm, and constant. He held my hand when I needed it the most, and he was there first thing every morning with whatever I wanted, plus a new gadget or Lego creation to brighten my day. I often say that Mitch was my rock during this time, but that doesn’t even begin to cover it. He was my cheerleader, my advocate, my caretaker, and the safe place I leaned on when everything else felt unsteady. Even on the hardest days, he showed up with patience, love, and this quiet strength that made me feel like we were going to get through it…together. The transplant journey was long, unpredictable, and at times overwhelming. But as we moved through each phase - treatment, recovery, setbacks, victories - we learned something important: love doesn’t just show up in the big, dramatic moments. It shows up in the daily, ordinary ones. In the way he made me smile even on the worst days, in the comfort he brought just by being there, and in the small moments of joy he created when my world felt very small. Today, on the other side of so many mountains, we see that this experience didn’t just test our relationship, it strengthened it in a way we didn’t even know was possible. It reminded us how precious life is and how deeply we are meant for each other. As we celebrate our wedding (again!) with the people we love, we aren’t just celebrating a ceremony. We’re celebrating gratitude. Healing. Partnership. And the kind of love that endures even the toughest storms. We feel incredibly lucky to have each other, to have our health moving forward, and to have a love story that continues to grow in ways we never expected. With Love, Katelyn
